Altar'd State Fayette Mall — Local services in Lexington

I came in to check out their clothes since they looked cute -- big mistake because I forgot, I'm black. The style here is think Taylor Swift so I guess I don't look like I should be in there. While shopping I grabbed a few pieces, some in a couple sizes because I wanted to try them on and buy. It is my birthday after all.

Instead, the heavy set redish head followed me around the store. When I walked towards the front because I wanted to see everything in there, of course she tried to intercept me, making eye contact, as if I'd just run out of the store with my items. The gag is I make exponentially (literally) more than their highest paid employee. But I guess at this store it's cool to judge a book by their cover. If I judged that employee by her cover I'd say she never brushes her hair but that would be unfair right?

I went to try my clothes on and my boyfriend (white) noticed they wrote everyone's name on the changing room doors but never asked my name. The attendant drew a star for my name. A star. He also noticed the girl following me around and was appalled. This man isn’t even a “woke” type he’s lovingly oblivious so if he noticed it was bad.

Then I go to check out and am ignored for awhile, sure I'll wait. Then the girl at the register asks if I'd been helped, "no" I answer and she looks really sad and says "oh wow I'm so sorry". Awkward silence. I had been not only ignored but racially profiled in the store. 2 pieces coming to 100 dollars.

If you're white definitely shop here. If you're black...

I had such a great experience here last Thursday! The store had the cutest things as always but this experience really stood out. Amy was super helpful and went out of her way to grab something down for me without hesitation. She made me feel comfortable asking for her help. Closed in the middle of the day during mall hours to do inventory so unprofessional. I came all the way to the mall to pickup shoes I had delivered to this location and was told they couldn’t even hand them to me through the door even though I had them shipped there and they were already paid for.
