I would give this place a 5-star review as I've been coming to this Petco for a few years, but unfortunately I did need to drop two stars due to the poor service received by Bailey today. I purchased a couple of emerald corys to add to my fish tank yesterday; however, 1 of them unfortunately didn't make it through the night. When I went to replace this fish I was assisted by Jacob, who was a great help, but left about as soon as I received the replacement. I walked about 20 feet before I really took a look at the fish, to which I noticed it was swimming frantically and occasionally upside down. After the short observation it was very clear the fish probably wouldn't make it in the tank, much less the 5-minute trip home. So, I returned to the fish tanks and waited for an associate to be free as Jacob had already returned to the back. Bailey approached and asked if I needed help where I explained the situation. Rightfully, she asked me if I dropped the fish and I said I had not and hadn't moved very far after receiving the replacement. She immediately snapped back with, "well this only happens if the fish was dropped." If I dropped the fish I would eat the cost because that's on me, but I didn't and the snappy comment was uncalled for. She took it upon herself to walk the fish up to the register, fine by me, but her face expressed her annoyance to the point another associate commented about it to her. She checked me out and reminded me that a physical receipt was needed in the future. I declined my receipt from the original purchase because I thought I received them through email. I wanted clarification on if Petco sent e-receipts and started to ask but she interrupted me halfway through to say "we are not responsible for keeping track of your receipts." Of course the store isn't responsible and she would have known I wasn't asking that if she waited for me to finish my question instead of jumping to conclusions. I understand the frustration of having to deal with unreasonable customers, especially working in the pet industry where I'm sure many customers probably walk-in with little knowledge of the care needed. But, she immediately took me as someone with no knowledge and showed her very frustration and annoyance with me every step of the way until I walked...
Read moreThe only reason I don’t give this place 1 star is because some employees are actually trying to make a change. It’s incredibly sad to see the mistreatment of animals. No! You can’t put fish in 1 gallon, BETTAS need 10 minimum! Before they’ve left in dead animals to rot and ridiculed me upon recommending removing said dead animal. They also keep cannibalistic species together (toads and snakes) which obviously stresses out animals to an insane degree, not to mention how they deny the animals basic needs like regular food and proper humidity and heat. They’ve been caught throwing out live animals in their dumpsters that weren’t in good health that obviously needed vet attention. They also sell toxic products (paper bedding for mice which can cause respiratory infections amongst other products is the main problem, this can kill your mice! Five year old me learned this the hard way, metal mesh wheels that aren’t large enough can also cause bubble foot and scoliosis in mice, smooth perched for birds can also cause bubble foot in birds which is horrible and painful for the animal) there’s a LOT more I could cover complete and utter lack of proper information (ball pythons go in ONE HUNDRED TWENTY GALLONS, NOT FORTY GALLONS GUYS, they also need 80% humidity, aquariums with screen lids can’t provide this unless modified) to the lack of customer control, your kid banging on the glass can stress an animal out Karen, sometimes even to death! Take tarantulas for example. I’m not trying to bash a pet company just to bash a pet company but get your stuff together Petco! I do more employee work than some of yours do at times! Sorry this was so long to read to anybody that reads this, but I really want to spread the word how treating animals wrong no matter the offense or the kind of animal still isn’t right! Do your research before buying and get your animals and supplies from...
Read moreAwesome place to go and buy mice for my snakes. Horrible place to by fish. If you have little knowledge on fish, then don't expect much help for them. Fish ended until dying because the man working in the aquatic section didn't bother to tell me that I should have waited a week to buy the fish after setting the tank up. It's their job to protect pets from being killed. Not to set you up to end up killing your pets because of not properly informing you. He knew I was buying the brand new tank for the fish and that I was going to put that fish in that tank that same day while also not knowing that would put it into shock. He was able to tell me not to put two of those fish in the same tank and tell me how to take care of it while giving me a nonchalant I don't really care attitude but couldn't bother to tell me to wait a week to buy the fish. It's his job to make sure that the pets sold are going to be properly taken care of and that they will have the proper conditions. I had little knowledge and he knew that, as I was asking him many questions trusting that he had the proper knowledge. Either he was purposefully setting me up for failure or he doesn't have nearly enough knowledge or investment in his work to be employed in that section of the store. Hence why so many of their fish are either dead or eaten by other fish in the same tank. What I have seen in their fish tanks is disgusting really, and I'm disappointed in myself for not knowing better. Waste of a life and waste of my money. Looks like I'll be going to the other petco to buy 8 mice a week as there isn't much of a selection when it comes to buying feeders at pet stores. Bravo on losing a...
