Expercom - Apple Premier Partner — Local services in Logan

I just purchased a brand-new, high-end Apple iMac 2020 (and yes, it's fabulous :) from the good folks at Expercom. An Apple Insider review of the new iMac lineup tipped me off to their existence, with a coupon code good for a 6% (approx.) discount. Who could resist an offer like that? I couldn't. I mean, Apple rarely - if ever - discounts their hardware, AFAIK.

One benefit of using Expercom is that they can configure (& test) your Mac with additional memory (in models that can be upgraded, of course) for about 1/3 the cost of the (breathtaking) prices Apple charges for OEM RAM. The savings on memory alone can add up to some serious change ($750 in my case). Typically I upgrade RAM myself, but this was cheaper and easier than DIY. Expercom's shipping rates are very reasonable (low, even), too, and I also got a big discount on AppleCare+. Sweet!

Since my system was customized both with more RAM and with a VESA mounting bracket (which must be installed when the system is built in China), I ended up having several telephone interactions with Expercom's excellent Ogden, Utah-based customer support staff. Each time I called, I was quickly connected with a live person (and not some interminable menu tree) who was able to efficiently respond to any requests or questions I had. Expercom's systems give them detailed insight into where your Mac is in the manufacturing and shipping pipeline, so I always knew the status of my system. I ended up receiving my new iMac ahead of the estimated delivery date, about 16 days after placing my order. It wouldn't have been any faster had I ordered the system directly from Apple... just way more expensive!

I'll definitely be doing business with Expercom in the future, and can confidently recommend them to anyone who's in the market for a new (or pre-owned) Mac... as well as iPhone, other Apple products, software, service (both in- and out-of-warranty), support, data recovery, etc. In short, Expercom provides products and a personalized customer experience that's almost indistinguishable from dealing with Apple itself. I have gone to Expercom in the past for a few things and have had good service from them before for some minor software updates but this last time was absolutely terrible. My imac had an issue where it wouldnt boot past the start up, so I took it to Expercom and they did a full diagnostic on it. First they said its your hard drive. Then they said the hard drive was fine and that it was the video card which they were going to charge about $350 for. Then they said it is not the video card it is your logic board which according to them is a $728 fix plus labor. So they told me they dont recommend fixing it and if I want to trade in my imac they would give me $100 for it. I decided to take my computer home and get a second opinion by taking it to an actual Apple Store. After just a couple days they determined it was in fact the video card not the logic board and only cost me $182 for the parts and labor together! I told the Apple Store about what Expercom told me it was and how they were going to charge me $728 for a new logic board and they said even if it was the logic board they could replace it for $400. I will not be going back to Expercom and will only go to an actual Apple Store from now on. I have learned my lesson, go to an Apple Store even if you have to drive a ways to Salt Lake City, they do a free diagnostic on all Apple Products unlike Expercoms $39.99 flat rate charge just to see what is wrong with your computer. I saved myself about $600-$700 and also still have my computer by getting a second opinion. And to think even if I did have Expercom replace the logic board it would not have fixed my computer since it was the video card. This situation turned out okay for me because I got a second opinion before I made a big decision. Maybe Expercom made a mistake I dont know, I dont like to blame someone unless I have absolute 100% proof but I am not taking my chances there ever again. This is my update to my previous one star review that you can read below: After the manager read my one star review he apologized that he wasn't at the store at the time of the incident. He said that he would have been willing to help had he been there. He offered me a discount on my repair. Also, he had a conversation with his staff that I hope will improve customer service in the future. Although I still wish that they would have honored their return policy, I am grateful to him for being willing to work with me. Thanks Expercom for the service that you provide all of the apple users in Cache Valley. And thank you Expercom for hiring a manager that is committed to his customers.

Previous post: I have typically had a good experience with Expercom. However, today I felt that I wasn't taken care of as a valued customer. I bought a apple watch SE just two weeks ago rather than the 6 hoping that it would meet my needs. The customer service rep told me that if I didn't like it that I had 30 days to return it. After about a week I realized that I wanted the "always on" feature that the 6 offers and was willing to pay the extra money. When I returned it they held it up to the light and found the tiniest of scratches that basically anyone would have had after wearing it for a couple of weeks and then refused to take it on return. I asked if they could work with me in any way? The answer was a firm "NO!" I was even having my phone repaired at the same time. They could have at least offered a discount on their labor, anything that would helped me recover costs for having to sell it on my own. But there was simply no effort made here. Truly not what I expected from them considering how they have taken care of me...
