First thing's first: to get to the lounge from the main seating area in the station, take a right when you see the sign pointing to "Amtrak Services." When you get to the car rental desk at the end of the corridor, go left and up the stairs, then push the button on the door to be let in to the lounge. Coach and business class passengers can use 1,500 points to get a single-use lounge pass, business class passengers can also opt to get a pass for $25 instead if you don't have points (not available in coach), and sleeping car passengers get lounge access for free automatically.
Keith, the lounge attendant, is one of the best Amtrak employees I've ever met. I would say he needs a raise, but he told us he's retiring soon after 37 years with Amtrak.
They have a good selection of free snacks and drinks, outlets to charge your devices, comfy seating, and an area to stash your bags in case you want to walk around LA without all your luggage in tow.
Keith gave very clear instructions to everyone in the lounge regarding the boarding process, including the offer of a ride down to the platform for everyone (I opted to walk to get my daily steps in).

Read moreI stopped by Union Station yesterday to get the details of my upcoming Amtrak journey. Since I have a business class ticket, I was informed that I will have lounge access before my departure. I went up to the lounge to check it out, and I was so surprised. The agent on duty named Felis was welcoming and kind. She let me come in and look around. I have been to so many airport lounges. I never knew Amtrak had lounges. It is small and basic, but very nice and a great location to go out to your train directly from the lounge. I am so glad I checked this place out and cannot...
Read moreThis place used to be so charming - with a first class ticket, you could wait for your train and be driven by cart to the depot. Well, today, 9-13-22, my beautiful teenage daughter showed up with her first class ticket, excited to study and enjoy snacks while she waited for the train. The lounge was deserted and the workers (if that’s what you want to call them) asked why she was there. She was informed now the lounge had an additional fee of $25 and when she declined to pay, they laughed at her. It’s useless complaining to Amtrak but I really hope karma gets these...
