I used to live here for several years before COVID, and I quite enjoyed it. Living in LA is expensive, and this place offers affordable and furnished micro apartments in a cool area of Little Tokyo. The rooms are pretty small, but I was never bothered by it and found it to be cozy. If you're living with someone else, then it may not be as comfortable, but for it's perfectly fine if you're by yourself..
There are shared washers and drying machines, which I don't remember how much they cost, but I remember being able to pay using credit card. The only thing I didn't like as much was that you had to pick up your mail from the manager on-site, but I'm assuming they installed mailboxes for every unit by now.
Also note, some of these reviews are for Little Tokyo Hotel, which is an older hotel with private rooms and shared bathrooms (I've stayed there before as well). Mikado and Little Tokyo Hotel are not...
Read moreI loved living at the Mikado. Situated in the middle of the historic East 1st Street block in Little Tokyo, the Mikado was my primary residence for 18 months. The neighborhood is very walkable ("Walker's Paradise") and I never felt unsafe, even in the evenings because of the presence of "eyes on the street": a permanent line of people standing in line to eat at the popular ramen restaurant downstairs.
The microunit I stayed in was 135 sq ft. It was on the third floor, modern in design, and had a spacious shower with pebble flooring. My window overlooked an interior Japanese courtyard garden that opened up to the sky. The laundry machines were convenient, located on the second floor. In my time there, I got to know some of my neighbors. We all agreed that having our own affordable place in the middle of DTLA was the best thing. Leaving work at 6pm, and being home and relaxing by 6:10pm was...
Read moreHey there. So basically this ‘Hotel’ is a mix from hostel and Motel. That’s not bad but you need to share your bathroom with other people. It’s an old house and has small rooms. So it doesn’t have a AC but two ventilators. The beds are making noisy sounds when you sleep, so you need to change them please. I didn’t pay a lot so I won’t complain about all these. It’s in front of Japan town and it’s a really safe street. A lot of asian people and nice restaurants. You will find restaurants which are open till 3 am where you can easily walk without being scared about homeless people. The people who work in the ‘hotel’ are really nice. They won’t disturb you and offer their help if you need it.
I would definitely recommend this place if you wanna save some money but want to have your own room and want to be in safe...
