Looks like I get to be the first post-opening review!
-The new pieces feel great in the hand. -Routes are interesting and offer a wide variety of challenges beyond just "higher grade = smaller holds and longer reaches". -Mats cover the whole climbing area and absorb impact well. That said, I still don't top out in some areas because the wall is fairly high. Dropping 10+ feet is always a little dicey, but being a little cautious there doesn't reduce my enjoyment. -Staff is knowledgeable, pleasant, and engaged. -Yoga area looks quite big and hopefully has some airflow although I haven't done a class yet. -Grading seems slightly tougher than average, but that's not a bad thing. There's still plenty of fun and challenge in the easier routes - you can have a great time here as a V1-V2 climber, and there's a few VB/V0 bunny routes as well.
Only nitpicks are that the weight room is tiny and there's no top or lead climbing.
Couple requests (hope management is listening!) -
Please do classes or partner up with qualified trainers. My previous gym has started running crack climbing, anchor setting, etc classes which are neat, but I'd really like to see classes geared toward core bouldering skills. I'd sign up for a 2-week v3 to v5 class in a heartbeat, or even just little 1-3 hour after-work classes, and I could probably get several more people to join with me.
I'd love to see a crack or two added down the line.
More gym equipment, especially focused on cardio and climbing muscles. My apartment gym is a bit meh, would be nice to have better options here.
All in all, off to a great start and I imagine there's more to come. Hopefully...
Read moreThis is probably the smallest climbing gym I’ve ever been to. It features a single island boulder surrounded by slab walls. The walls are taller than those in other gyms. Boulders are graded with V grades, but some are rated PG, PG-13, and R. I found this a bit confusing, but I assume the ratings are due to their height. The mats are very firm.
They also have a kilter board upstairs, which is set at a 60-degree angle. I visited primarily to use the kilter board, but I noticed that some of the lights were broken and didn’t illuminate. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun. I went on a Saturday, and it wasn’t...
