The front of the house staff is incredible, warm, friendly, and very accommodating. For instance, we needed help moving our reservation time and they were able to make it happen. The ambience of the restaurant is so beautiful lighting tables light music. Everything was working very well until we sat down. The waiter we had was a tall gentleman with a European accent while he was friendly, he was not very accommodating, for instance: we had to ask for our water to be refilled. also, he never asked about whether our food or drink was satisfactory, only “are you having a good time?“ Strange.
It was almost as if he forgot to put our ticket into the kitchen, it took quite a while for a food to come at one point he came over and he probably thought I was going to ask about the timing, but I was asking for more water instead. We noticed that there was some “lively conversation” in the kitchen. The head chef seemed to point over to our table several times. My theory is that our waiter forgot to put in our ticket and now the kitchen had to make our meals on the fly.
It was our anniversary dinner, and while the front of the house staff was very congratulatory, our waiter made no attempt to congratulate us on our anniversary or bring us anything special, even though all the tables around us were also celebrating birthdays, anniversary, etc., receiving desserts with candles. We received nothing of the sort. We felt very forgotten and excluded.
it seemed as though he was very commentating to the regulars/people who ordered lots of drinks or and or bottles of wine. as soon as we did not order any alcohol, he seemed to lose interest immediately, which is unfortunate because as people who are transitioning from alcohol, we don’t appreciate the pressure to drink.
anyway, the food was amazing. Can’t be more happy about the quality and taste as a food. I got the steak, maitake mushroom and truffle fries all of which were five out of five stars. My wife got the roasted cauliflower, which is also incredibly tasty.
So while I highly recommend this restaurant, if you end up going, hopefully you won’t get the same...
Read moreViolet LA is a charming bistro located in the heart of Westwood Village. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of California-French cuisine, as well as a full bar. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Violet LA with a party of seven celebrating our friends wedding anniversary. We were seated promptly and our server, Shahil, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were generous. I had the steak and it was fire!!!
We also enjoyed a few cocktails from the bar & Our group pretty much ordered all of the cocktails on the menu. My fave was the Violet V spritz.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Violet LA. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special dining experience in Westwood.
Here are some additional details about our experience:
The staff was incredibly thoughtful and accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure that we had a great time. For example, when we told them that we were celebrating an anniversary, they brought out a complimentary dessert... Cheesecake, yum!
The menu is seasonal and changes frequently, which keeps things interesting. We tried a variety of dishes and everything we had was delicious.
The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and service.
The ambience is warm and inviting. The restaurant is located in a charming old building with a brick courtyard.
I would definitely recommend Violet LA to anyone looking for a special dining experience in Westwood. It is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or to simply enjoy a delicious meal with...
Read moreI went to Violet for a birthday dinner 11/25. I was excited to finally eat here after hearing about their duck but was thoroughly disappointed. They have 6 basic dishes on their menu - every little thing is an additional charge ($12 for 1 12" baquette...almost laughable). After sitting and ordering drinks, we were told they didn't have the duck available because "Monday's are slower so we don't stock enough duck"...again, seriously? With the expensive 6 entre menu you have, you think diners on Monday aren't worth stocking up with your signature dish? This left me with only 2 choices since I don't eat fish which was no 3 of the 6 entres on offer. I refused to pay $60 for a steak (which comes as ONLY the steak filet on the very empty plate) so ended up eating a burger (which again came on a VERY empty plate except for a few pickles). We procceded to order their version of frites...which if you spend even 10 minutes in France or Paris will not suffice since they are cut as American Steak Fries...a far cry from actual French frites which SHOULD come piled next to steak.
As we proceeded to dessert we were again very disappointed with VERY limited choices...which did not feel at all as if anyone who created this menu, spent any time at a true French Bistro.
Considering the expense of this meal - I would never eat here again. If you are looking for a true french bistro restaurant go elsewhere. Cute ambience, but you can achieve that anywhere...the food was only fair, the presentation of the food horrible, as well as the extremely limited menu and choices...not worth the expense nor wasting a birthday...
