UPDATE: Jared CS reached out and asked me to speak with the Jared's store manager. He was able to polish the ring where it was scratched (that didn't sound like too risky a thing to let happen)..he said that it should have been caught in their quality inspection before being released to me. He did what he was able to, to remedy the issues we had, and my ring looks much better! Still 2-toned, which they maintain it was originally (that wouldn't be an easy thing to change at this point, and I'm fine with it). They really made the effort to make things right, and I am very pleased with that...upping my review to reflect the overall negative and positive experiences. Still leaving the original...in case someone else has an old ring that needs work. Be aware it's not a super straightforward process, and you may want to research or ask a lot of questions!
My fiance and I recently took his late grandmother's ring to this Jared to get it resized for our engagement. Upon inspecting the ring, the woman said that the ring would need additional work - retipping, resetting, etc. That was all fine, although it was quoted to cost ~$550. She suggested not re-working the current ring and instead purchasing a new setting to place our diamonds into. We weren't interested in anything she showed us (I like the vintage look - I think it's much more interesting than the current styles). When my fiance was reading the agreement prior to signing, the woman got very rude and impatient and said "Frankly, if you're going to leave the ring with us, you have to sign it." I wish we had walked out then and there! The ring had some intricate etching that had worn down slightly over the years, and I asked if it was possible to re-etch it. ....more on that later....
The ring we brought in to Jared was completely yellow gold. The ring we got back was re-set with white gold. And it wasn't cleaned when we got it back. There were metal specks all over the setting as well as the diamond. We took the ring, because we were meeting with people who wanted to see it, and I was going to see if the two-toned would grow on me. After showing some people the ring, one noticed that one of the smaller outside diamonds was not secure in the new setting. I also decided that I preferred all yellow gold to the two-toned, so we took it back. When I inquired about the gold color, I was told that the ring was "probably" originally two-toned, and that they aren't allowed to re-tip with yellow gold (we asked my fiance's mother, and she said the ring was definitely always all yellow gold). My big problem here is WHY didn't they tell me up front that there was a chance my color would be altered? They knew how old the ring was when we brought it in, and they should have informed me. Not that I trust them in their assessment that the ring was "probably" always two-toned, when family of the original owner attests otherwise. We let them fix the setting that they botched, and came in later for the ring. Again, the ring was speckled with bits of metal...not cleaned. And when we took a closer look at the setting they 'fixed'....they actually secured the diamond, but they SCRATCHED the entire side of the ring for the length of that setting. Also, the setting no longer matches the setting on the other side of the ring. I think it might even be cracked, but I REFUSE to take it back to them, as every time I take it, I get it back MORE DAMAGED. The etching: it is a SLOPPY job. It looks like someone heated the gold to melting, and then dragged a toothpick through it in a really poor attempt to mimic the other side's etching.
I wish I would not have trusted their "expert jewelers" with ANY of my ring's work. I will find a local jeweler who does this for more than a paycheck. I will never recommend Jared or any subsidiary (a lot of chain jewelry stores send their rings to Jared for work-so make...

This company sucks at everything they do. First off we receive good customer service even a personal letter in the mail to make us feel like valued customers. This is where the good service has stopped. They messed everything up for us i do mean everything. First mistake is when we decide to design a ring the store can not find any information about us as if they misplaced it or as if we can only work with the same associates that originally assisted us. The store screwed us around never having anything organized and where they can find our info. Designs for our engagement ring were incorrect. The store itself recommended a kite setting which they screwed up in the design process. finally a few months later the ring was completed but had to be repaired because it was poorly made, this was found on the spot before we even left the store. We had runarounds with my men's ring that was purchased the same time the engagement ring was purchased. the men's ring only had to be ordered in and sized. The men's ring should have been easy but was a headache too. First they could not get sizing correct at all. we received a ring that was damaged and had to be repaired they just ordered a new men's ring. The reorder was a nightmare it took for ever i called to follow up with the ring and they would have no idea what i was talking about. finally the ring came in then the sizing was wrong once again. They took the ring back for sizing and they left us hanging again. I called to ask them about the ring they once again had no idea about the ring and were asking me questions over the phone like what size should it be since they could not find any records or info once again. Finally we have rings that are fine but need sized again. i proposed at the minute the ring was took out of the box the plating on the white gold was blemished this is on a 4500$ ring. We take it back in and the associate gives a runaround once again asking us how we are taking care of the ring and a million questions as if it was our fault. the ring was only a few days old only worn for a couple of days. They admitted to the plating not being done correctly.
I opened a jareds account which was a mistake since i had the money to pay it off on the spot. I figured i would just build credit with the card. What a horrible idea. They said it would be fee free which was a lie. i had to cal them immediately and cancel the card i payed it off. 2 plus months later i receive a call saying i have outstanding fees on the card and that it was not canceled. I again had to get aggressive with them. They claimed they had returned mail to them about the account which is bs since we check our mail often and over pay our bills to keep them up to date or even ahead of time. They claimed that they took all charges of the account this time
The store itself gave us back a credit of 200$ on my men's ring.
DO NOT GO HERE or go to kays or zales they are all owned by the same company now. I advise you to find a local small mom and pop shop. Yes all jewelry stores have their down falls so just do your homework and dont get all cough up...
Read moreWorst service I've ever experienced in a jewelry store. You would think items that cost so much would call for a little customer service, but don't expect that here even after you've made a purchase.
In particular, I want to warn James Allen ring purchasers. For those unaware, James Allen was recently bought out by Jared. My husband and I bought our rings from James Allen prior to that and they all came with complimentary local jewelry service through Jared locations. You can still see this on James Allen's website. That's where this Jared location comes in.
I called a couple weeks before my wedding to confirm I could get the maintenance overhaul on my engagement ring (inspection, prong tightening, cleaning/polishing, rhodium plating). The lady I spoke to asked if I had a receipt, I said yes, she said no problem. I asked if I needed an appointment, she said no, just drop in. I was not told this process takes hours, so if you don't live nearby like I don't live nearby, it's much more inconvenient than anticipated because it becomes more than one trip. No one wants this sprung on them with the time constraints weddings bring.
On the day I visited, I drove half an hour away from my home to drop my ring off at this location. I noticed right away that they had too many salespeople on the floor and they were all doing nothing but talking to each other. I was directed to a woman named Bonnie. I don't think she was new, but she didn't seem to know much on her own and kept having to check with her manager. Unfortunately, her manager wasn't a big help.
Bonnie first asked for my receipt which I produced. She looked at it and said I didn't buy a maintenance package. I said my ring came with one. She said no, you have to purchase one, and condescendingly asked if that made sense. I was upset, but said yes and left.
When I called my husband and let him know what Bonnie and her manager told me, he called the store. By the time I was halfway back home, my husband called me and said turn around. He had to argue with both of them and make them go look at the James Allen site for them to believe him! So I drove back to the store. When I entered, Bonnie came up to me and unapologeticly said "sorry bout that" and took my ring.
As I was standing at the counter filling our paperwork for my ring, the manager we'd been going back and forth with finally showed her face. Though it wasn't to apologize to me for wasting my time, it was to check on Bonnie. "You alright, Bonn?" Like I was an aggressor, not someone who'd paid thousands of dollars to this business and to be treated like a thief. The manager did not even introduce herself or look at me. I received a curt attitude or silence the rest of my time there.
When I came back to pick up my ring, it had been serviced (the only positive of this whole interaction) and there was a big fat hair stuck in the prongs. After all that snobbery and gatekeeping, they couldn't even do a basic maintenance job right! Do yourself a favor and go...
