While the Poutine at Lazy dog is delicious, it is not delicious enough to compensate for the terrible customer service from the staff. I have been to Lazy dog on several occasions. I have overlooked poor training, drink spills, and an overall lack of experience amongst the staff (clearly stemming from poor leadership and management) simply due to the kindness and care shown from employees and the delicious food they serve. This has kept me coming back as I understand times are tougher than ever and we are all just trying to survive. That all changed after today’s visit. I placed an order for pickup online from the Johnstown location. My boyfriend went in to pickup our order. He stood for over 8 minutes at the front door waiting for an employee. There was none at the hostess stand or anywhere near. We were texting this entire time, so trust when I say the time elapsed is accurate. When an employee finally walked by the hostess stand, she stopped, stared at him and did not say a word. My boyfriend hesitated, and then said I am here for a pickup order? She stated that pickup orders are not her job, that’s the bars job and instead of walking him over there, pointed and added that she just got there and didn’t know what was going on. I have been in hospitality my entire life. There are SO many things wrong with that entire interaction. But wait, there’s more… My boyfriend followed her instructions and headed to the bar. Once he approached, he stated again that he was here for a pickup order. The gentleman at the bar POINTED to where the orders are, instead of handing the order to my boyfriend. My boyfriend obliged and walked over and grabbed the order. Before my boyfriend could even say thank you, the gentleman curtly said you’re welcome. My boyfriend was confused and a bit irritated but waved and left. Our order was incorrect. The Poutine was missing the cheese curds. This is unacceptable. Believe it or not, customers are the reason you have a job. That doesn’t mean the customer is always right, but it DOES mean that if you choose to work in hospitality, you can’t be a disrespectful, entitled, lazy prick. After all, it’s called hospitality for a reason. Google it. You don’t like it? Quit. Taking it out on your customers just trying to pickup some food? Not the way to go. As for management, I’ve heard your locations aren’t doing well. Maybe allowing employees to behave this way is a billboard sign showing you some reasons why. All you have...
Read moreThis will be my 3rd review for Lazy Dog in Johnstown. My 1st one about 8 years ago was a 5. The 2nd one about 3 years ago a 4. This one is a 3 based on the consistency, price and quality of the food. I have to delete the others in order to post this one. The wait staff and bartenders are all top notch. Stephanie is probably the BEST bartender we have ever seen, always cheerful and on top of things.. The atmosphere here can be much like Cheers in the bar area. Staff and patrons have consistently been there for encouragement and friendliness towards us in the past 3 years as we went through a series of health issues. We love them all and have spent thousands there over the years. The kitchen, however, frequently provides inconsistent food quality depending on who is working. Oftentimes it is simply not worth the increased prices they are asking. Much of it is good, but things are sometimes overcooked, over spiced, over sauced.. For me, there is not enough healthy food, but this is a bar/restaurant. It is not fine dining. I have had the sea bass or salmon be excellent one time and overcooked and tasteless another time. Recently my husband was picking off the overly breaded and overcooked coating on chicken and the cook/kitchen manager noticed when wandering out to the bar area. When asked about it, the response his response was "there are some young kids working the kitchen." Isn't that the responsibility of the head cook and kitchen manager? The response was totally inappropriate. The waitress ended up comping the meal. The food should be consistently the same first time, every time, and only improved upon over time. Perhaps he needs to be reminded his job description. When my husband came home and announced he was NEVER going to eat there again after going multiple times weekly for years, I was beyond shocked. Yet he will still return, not because of the cook or the food, but because of everyone else who works there and frequents there. So words of advice, if the food it cooked wrong and not to your expectations, send it back. Be specific on sauces and dressings on the sides if you like things on the lighter side. If it still doesn't work out, go someplace else to eat and come back and enjoy the people, bartender and waitstaff with a drink afterwards or before. And to the cook, stay in the kitchen, cook, train and supervise as you are supposed to. Every plate that comes out of that kitchen is YOUR...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for lunch one day. We’re from out of town and my mother lives here, so we come to CO and visit every so often. We came across Lazy Dog and it looked very appealing, so we decided to check it out. Got there, walked in and the hostess was on her phone completely ignoring us. I had to ask for a table, and she seemed annoyed when she took us to the table. Not off to a great start…
We got a table and we had put an order in for our drinks. The waitress seemed very uninterested and was very rude. We sat there for 20 mins waiting for just the drinks. Our waitress didn’t bother to even check on us or anything and we had to grab her attention to remind her about the drinks. She had finally served us our drinks. We put in an order for our food right away before she could leave, so we’re not sitting there forever like before. The waitress didn’t even bother to ask for refills, nothing.
The food, however, turned out great. We didn’t wait long and, I ordered the Mac and cheese while my husband got the 12 oz New York Strip Steak. Both were really good but my husband asked for well done, and there was pink. But we were so hungry that we didn’t even care at that point.
Another thing to add, there was a manager that came out of the kitchen and went around greeting customers, asking how their food is and checking up. He stopped at every table with customers, except for ours. I believe his name is Brian, just from over hearing from conversations at other tables. He made direct eye contact with me and just kept walking by. Again, he stopped at every table, except for ours. It’s like they were playing a game of who could avoid us the most. When we were done, we asked another waitress if she could grab our check. We paid and walked out. It felt as if we were trying to serve ourselves by asking for everything.
I’ve never written a review, but this is by far the worst restaurant my husband and I have ever been to. We felt super uncomfortable and way out of place. It says a lot about all of the employees we “interacted” with. Terrible service. We will not be dining again. The only positive about lazy dog is that you can bring dogs...
