I went to Bryn Mawr because I believed in its mission. I believed it was a place for smart, questioning, driven women — especially those who didn’t fit in elsewhere. I thought it would be rigorous and humane. What I found was the opposite.
I was sexually assaulted by a coach. When I reported it, the College did nothing. The coach was only removed after my mother — an attorney — threatened legal action. There was no apology. No support. No recognition that anything had happened to me.
This wasn’t an isolated failure. It reflected a culture that felt cold, status-obsessed, and emotionally neglectful. I was a lower-income student who worked throughout college. I needed mentorship and support. Instead, I got silence.
Academically, many courses felt rigid and abstract — theory over application, conformity over curiosity. It often felt like we were being trained to join an elite club rather than prepared to make a meaningful impact.
Decades later, I wrote to the College to ask how they address failures like this. The President never replied. The response I received was a generic line about “considering feedback,” with no acknowledgment of the assault or harm.
I don’t expect this review to change anything at Bryn Mawr. I’m writing it so others know what to look out for. If you want a college that sees you as a whole person — your ideas, your sensitivities, your background, and your vision for a better world —...

Went to pick up my brother from this school (he was visiting his girlfriend for the day), and I parked on the public street (Merion) to wait ten minutes while he came outside. While being there, eyes glared at me from all directions, including from the safe confines of the dorm rooms. My brother had come out and we we're packing his bags in my car while two campus security drove up quickly and blocked me in. They had apparently been called by students and were accusing me of "suspicious activity." (30 seconds later, I would have been gone if they hadn't showed up).
They repeatedly asked for my ID, and I repeated told them no damn way did they have the right.
Anyways, it appears to be that a male on this campus is cause enough for suspicious activity. Even though I wasn't on campus... I was on a public street.
But, hey, I hear these kids really do great things!!!
Who doesn't love a good artsy school at...
Read moreThis review is on the grounds of Bryn Mawr rather than the academics or admissions requirements. Bryn Mawr College has a lovely campus for walking, running, or otherwise quiet, relaxing exploits. There is plenty of shade on this bucolic campus which is located along Philadelphia’s upscale “Main Line.” There is an abundance of gothic architecture on the campus, inspired by the gothic style buildings of Oxford and Cambridge. The campus has a few hilly areas, particularly around the sports fields, but otherwise mainly flat. One of the things I found remarkable about this campus is the flowers and blooming plants are in such beautiful condition (in August!). Unlike other campuses, even renowned gardens in the area, the flowers are not dead - they are gorgeous and obviously well cared for. This little gem is a perfect place to enjoy the...
