Dawn’s Candy and Cake is, hands down, my favorite baking supply store not just because it’s extremely well stocked but the staff always goes above and beyond. Everything is well organized, including varying sized boxes, and there is a lovely variety of choices. I enjoy having the choice between regular boxes, ones with windows, and plastic cupcake holders in sizes from 1 cupcake all the way to 2 dozen. I experience phenomenal customer service every time I visit. I actually just finished a shopping trip there and I normally purchase a large amount of items. Unfortunately, it took some time for everything to be rung up. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest, as I know what to expect and am the one purchasing so much. (What can I say, I love to support this business). However, sometimes the other customers have such an issue waiting a few extra minutes. I even waited a while to see if they wanted to check out first. But they weren’t done browsing. Anyway, my point is that when it was their turn to be rung up, they were very rude to the clerk. Why? I have no idea, as he was doing his absolute best, moving as quickly and efficiently as possible; simultaneously answering phone calls. (I’m adding this portion because I hope he reads this one day and knows he is a rockstar and wonderful at his job and that I’m very sorry to put him in that stressful situation). The people who work here are marvelous and I appreciate all of their help and time each time I shop here. There is always a welcoming greeting as you walk in and offers of help to find anything needed. I highly recommend this store to fellow bakers often.
Some of my favorite selections - HUGE variety of options that include: LorAnn Oils for flavoring, a large rack of choices, varying food colorings (in convenient different sized bottles), cake boxes, macaron boxes, cupcake boxes, treat boxes, sprinkles, powder food coloring, edible dusts, cupcake toppers, cookie cutters, cupcake liners, buttercreams, premade fillings, the list goes on! I adore this store and loving shopping here. It’s worth a visit! I prefer spending money here rather than...
Read moreI can join the ranks of GLOWING reviews. When we walked in, Marta was SUPER friendly. She and Dawn were both extremely helpful, and patient with my crew (the shop is not large, and I walked in with two teens and a kid). My teenaged baker child was in HEAVEN. The prices were extremely reasonable, and she ended up with quite an eclectic pile by the time we checked out (flavoring, a silicone mold, cake rounds, cookie cutters....but my favorite find was a rubber scraper that had been created especially to scrape off whisks). It was super simple to sign my teen up for one of the classes Dawn offers, and we are excited to head back and take that in a few weeks!
UPDATE: My kiddo took the Modern Techniques cake decorating class today, with a friend. Elise was SO great, and the cakes turned out beautifully! All materials were provided, and my daughter came home with five 5” cakes, each in its own box for transport. She learned mirror glaze, striped frosting, drippy glaze, Russian tips, palette knife flowers, and fault line techniques (along with basic crumb coat and frosting techniques). Just couldn’t be happier!
Update 2: Chocolate 101 is in the books. 4 hours of tempering instruction and truffle filling. My daughter brought home 3 dozen professional looking truffles and they look (and smell) amazing! Thank you, Dawn! Love the teeny class sizes and professional results. My daughter loves how friendly every single...
Read moreA very nice place to learn how to decorate cakes, cupcakes, truffles and cookies, which all my kids have done. My son particularly enjoys doing the Tempering and Truffles. :)
Dawn (owner) and her staff instructors are very nice and will help accommodate classes.
It is a tight space for both the store and the instructor classes. Hope they can expand into two spaces in the near future; one for the store (which they carry a lot of items you would need to bake for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other treats etc. (ie: utensils, pans, boxes, fondants, sprinkles, decorating items, moldings, various chocolates) and the other space or room for baking classes. I suggest to just call ahead and ask for certain items that you may need and then take the time to look at each aisle at the store and be surprised of what they carry. I...
