Shine Y Rocks — Local services in Mackinaw Township

As a new person to rock finding, I came into the shop with a rock that I had just found on Lake Huron. I understand that I brought the stone in and didn’t purchase the rock at the shop. However, as a rock shop in Rock Country USA (almost all of MI), I would think that answering a couple of basic questions about the rock or simply saying “I’m not that knowledgeable about the rocks here” would have been appropriate and good customer service. When I walked in a super friendly staff behind the desk quickly talked to me and took/looked at the stone. At one point even said they had someone who was going into geology was working later in the evening. HOWEVER, a woman who I assume was the owner, quickly interrupted the other staff and said, “we are here to sell stones, not to answer questions about the many different types of rocks that could potentially be found around here.” She said this or similar to this a few different times and then went and told the other staff member that the geologist person wasn’t going to be working later. There was one other customer who came in at the end of her rant and had shown interest in the rock I found. At the end I smiled and said thanks anyway. A true hidden gem, gem shop!✨💫🔮 My partner & I discovered this cove when wandering the streets with cute architecture and a small town feel when we came across this spot with an open door of good vibes spilling outside! The owner and other person working were so very friendly and radiating positivity which warmed my heart after having different experiences in other shops. Y’all are awesome! The selection is lovely with a wide range of uncommon minerals & stones. Not to mention the super rad glow cave which you can go inside! I have had a couple phenomenal experiences here and was so happy to see them succeeding. Today I came in and the woman working could not have been more rude. I had kids wandering around but no one else was in there and they weren’t disturbing anyone. They just were excited to come in like they always are. I wound up throwing away the earrings I bought on the way back to my car, not wanting to carry any of that woman’s energy around with me. I wish this place all the best, it’s a great store inventory wise but the staff being hit or miss makes me feel like it’s not worth the shot. I’m bummed, I loved this store...
