Summary: Quality furniture, low pressure sales tactics, catchy jingle. Lots of secret compartments to keep you entertained in the store.
The good: "None of the furniture crosses an ocean to get to you", most is made in the Midwest. Quality seems important to the company, and its got great style. Each wooden piece I saw in store also had excellent choice in wood grain, including in places that would normally be ignored (like inside the drawers or on dark-stained items).
The great: They have mattresses (we didn't know before we went in), that are excellent and well priced. We'd been on and off looking at mattresses for a year now, and I decided to make one myself because of price to quality issues, until we found the Penny Mustard ones. The salespeople let us look at our own pace, and were super helpful in finding the right fit.
The so-so: Pricing. They dont run sales, the closest you might get is a clearance item. If you really love an item, it's what it costs to make and get it to you and there's no leeway. It's so-so because you miss out on that really good feeling of buying something at 30-50% off, but it means there's no pressure. You don't have to wait for the next big holiday for it and you can come back another day or month and get the same price.
I waited for delivery before rating, but that went smoothly. We had a tougher delivery spot than most, but they figured it out and were quick and friendly. They also made sure we had regular updates to their arrival and were happy...
Read moreStopped in just to browse for a cabinet for our dining room and ended up purchasing a beautiful piece we were able to customize with the wood/stain we wanted. Justus, our salesperson, was very helpful and knowledgeable. Overall great experience!
UPDATE: It has been 9 months since we ordered this piece, and now that I've dealt with all areas of Penny Mustard, I have to downgrade them to 2 stars. The sales experience was great, everything since has been difficult. When the piece we ordered in November finally arrived in late April there was a problem with one of the doors, something that should have been caught before it was delivered. They sent a technician to try and fix it, no luck. They had to ship it back to the manufacturer, and when I called for an update I was told they had been emailing me (using an incorrect email) and I wasn't responding. They said they had the piece back and scheduled delivery. The day before it was supposed to be delivered they called to say it wasn't back from the manufacturer after all and they would try to get an update. When I called a few days later for an update they said they had emailed an update (still wrong email). No new info, just that it was still with manufacturer. Based on these frustrating customer service experiences I would NOT recommend...
Read moreWe worked with Shazia to select and purchase a new couch and chair for our home. We want to let you know how happy and impressed we are with Penny Mustard - the products, selection and most importantly the service we received from Shazia. She went above and beyond expectations by greeting us as we walked in the store, let us look at the products then assisted us with our purchase. She asked us questions about which products we liked and where they were in the store, what we liked / didn’t like about the products, our thoughts on the fabric / styling / comfort when sitting in the product, the height / width / length of the product and was it comfortable for us, and would the product work in our home. Shazia guided us in the selection of the couch and chair, the fabric based on our thoughts on color and texture, and how it would work on the product itself. We will shop at Penny Mustard again for further furniture purchases. Thank you Penny Mustard and Shazia for the shopping experience that went above and beyond expectations. We will recommend Penny Mustard to our friends. Mary...
