Perkins American Food Co. — Restaurant in Madison

**(Update April 23, 2023): Last I was here was about half a year ago to bring home pies. This time my wife brought the girls and Bree's boyfriend to pick me up from Wando's after watching the first round of the NBA playoffs with a high school buddy of mine. They came right after seeing a nighttime showing of Super Mario Bros at about 9:30 pm...when the college kids started streaming into the bar. It worked out as the Bucks game ended about the same time their movie did. Always great catching up with Wando, and my buddy Dave decided to drive back to Milwaukee that night. My turn to go down to watch a game with him next time.

Needless to say, I was buzzed and hankering for some late second dinner (and pie 🥧). They obliged as I was buying, and it was awesome after bar food. I had a bowl of potato soup 🍲 and country fried steak with green beans and bacon 🥓🥓🥓 with mashed potatoes and gravy. Comfort food after beer and shots. We got appetizers, and Brynne ordered the Belgian 🧇🧇🧇 waffles of course. Chicken 🍲 soup for Lisa. Bree and Michael bought breakfast 🥞🍳 plates. Our service was outstanding and friendly, and of course we brought a wildberry pie home to devour in the morning. Bring your insulin. Good stuff, Man.

We have been customers at this restaurant for many years. If we are running low on time and cannot muster the will to cook a meal ourselves, we will drop in for a bite to eat. Service is usually good, people are friendly, and the food is okay. Last evening about 9:30 pm, their carpet cleaners showed up and commenced spraying the carpets and vacuuming while people ate. The staff told us that this is usually done later in the evening when the restaurant is less busy, and the can close off a section where the work is then done. There was a section that was empty and even had doors, but there was no attempt made to direct the workers to that area. While the young manager said that they only used water to clean, it was obvious from the odor that some chemicals were being sprayed as we ate. This was a very surreal experience. Do they clean carpets in their homes when they serve dinner to guests? Why would they think paying customers should have their dinners interrupted in this way? Besides the chemical smell, the door was propped part way open to accommodate the hoses stretching through the restaurant and out to the unmarked van letting in the cold winter air. We've been to plenty of 24 hour restaurants, and never have we had an experience like this one. The manager said they have to clean the carpets sometime afterall--not a good excuse. Umm lets see. Went for a quick breakfast arrived at 1040 and after me and the 3 people I was with sat down a group of 6 sat down and we're attended with drinks and food before us. We didn't get the food till 1120 .. Got my drink finnaly refilled when the food came. My eggs weren't cooked how I asked so I didn't want them and when I asked for a separate plate to put my French toast on to avoid the runny eggs I had to wait another ten mins by then the food was cold and I was unsatisfied needing my bill and a box.. Other plates were empty all over the table when she dropped by left the check and left without taking anything with her.. We wanted to order food to go but left without because we couldn't get her attention for more then 2 seconds at a time. I told the short haired blonde manager all this and what did she say.. We're only human.. Ahaha. Wow. I wanted to walk out and not pay for anything instead I paid for food I didn't eat and tipped on service I didn't get. All I said at the end was maybe Perkins shouldn't pile so much on one person if she was that busy. And if the manager has to explain to me how there are 2 grills in the back maybe she should close her mouth and open her eyes see an upset customer apologize and correct the situation ibstead she pissed me off more and I'm writing this.
