State Office Building — Local services in Madison

The reception person at this location is worthless when it comes to helping people, especially people of color. I observed them immediately tell a woman who walked in ‘we’re not a walk up business.’ And ‘You can’t walk in this building without a badge to access areas.’ While waiting, the black woman asked if she could sit somewhere and was told ‘no, nowhere in here.’ A white woman walked in and she was greeted with a cheery attitude by the receptionist, asking how they could help them. She wanted to surprise her uncle who’s birthday was today, so she got the free pass into the building, no further questions asked. You can be a non-binary person, but there are still multiple races of people who deserve the respect you think is...

The kindness and helpfulness of the great staff here who really helped me navigate where I wanted to go, is only outdone by the sheer beauty of this 1930s structure, a triumph of ending the Great Depression and replete with lovely Roman fascist fasces symbols of an axe wrapped in a bundle of wooden staves speak to the strength of our Madison...

Went in to get a copy (or 2) of my birth certificate in order to trek out to the DMV and renew my driver's license. The lady at the counter, at the State Office building, was absolutely terrific. I couldn't have had a better person to assist with all I needed. She deserves a raise, a promotion, whatever can be given....
