ASO - Adventure Sports Outpost — Local services in Mammoth Lakes

Last week I was in need of an ER for my tour bike. Ya see like an idiot I didnt secure my Surley to my rear rack properly, and ended up dragging it behind me for 2 miles down washboard rds... So the next day I went to see the good people at ASO. Upon arriving they took me in like family and started the process of fixing Elenore (Surley disc trucker). We ordered the parts (handle bars, shift and brake lever) for next day arrival. Alex the mechanic is legend!!! Once they arrived he stopped what he was doing and began surgery on Elenore. He replaced all busted pieces with new parts, true'd my wheels, taped the handle bar and ran a general inspection on all moving parts. Never has my bike shifted and braked so well. I want to send a huge shout out to Alex and the crew at ASO for all they did. I ran my tour from Mammoth to Tonapah NV (340 miles round trip) and not even a skip in shifting. My family and I came in early enough to get all 5 of us bikes to rent. They are very knowledgeable here and very helpful. They offered tips and a map to guide us for the day. The prices were extremely reasonable. For half day rental it was $25 and $35 for all day. We got the all day since we weren't sure how long we would be. On top of all the great customer service and attention we received, we got a discount from Yelp that they gave us. And the cherry on top of all that, my eyeglass case got left on the counter and the owner rode down to where I was at a nearby park and delivered them to me. I rented three e-bikes from ASO, and everything was fine until the brakes on one of our bikes went out—both of them! Thankfully, I caught it early on before it could have turned into a disaster coming down from Lake Mary.

I had to get a ride back to ASO from a friend. When I returned the bike and explained the situation, they couldn’t have cared less. It was honestly a bummer, since the whole experience had been great, but their disregard for a customer’s safety was alarming.

All in all, be warned: they don’t check the brakes before renting, so I would double-check them yourself. I won’t be...
