Wave Rave Snowboard Shop — Local services in Mammoth Lakes

First time renting here and was nice to have a snowboard specialist store. Staff were generally helpful and friendly but a little short on advice and some a little condescending. Equipment was a little beat up as expected for rentals however the price was reasonable. Attention to detail is lacking. Wanting to trust the experience of shop staff I didn't question their knowledge since they deal with the equipment all day and they should know better. First visit, got a Burton Flight Attendant board and Cartel Binding. I realised that the bindings are too big and I ended up adjusting them as best I could on the mountain. The toe strap would not tighten enough on minimum size. Second visit, came back to get binding swapped to a medium fit. They replaced with a Burton Custom Medium. Thought it was all good except I realised they set the high back too far forward for the forward lean adjuster to mate with the base frame. It missed the back and regardless of which setting I used it mis-aligned and fell into the frame. Third visit, got the high back re-adjusted but it was too far back which stopped it in a forward max position even on the lowest setting. Anyway after all that I ended up making the adjustments myself after looking up the Burton manual on the internet. All in all i would say in some part I should have been more assertive in making sure my equipment was properly fitted before leaving the store. Ultimately I say do your research but also rental stores should be more helpful and patient with less experienced riders. Regardless, after all the back and forth, I had a great day on the mountain once the issues were dialled in. I know what to look out for when buying my next board and binding. Stopped by today and found the snowboard I wanted to buy in the right size. The board had a dent on it, not critical, but a visible cosmetic defect (all the boards in the shop are unpacked, so anyone can scratch them when pulling from the stand). I was actually fine to buy it but double-checked with a staff member if they have another one in stock. It was $600 board after all. He didn't find one but offered a 10% discount. Sounds great. I went to the register downstairs and explained the situation. "Who told you this? I can't give a discount without permission". I did not know the name of the guy, so went upstairs again to ask for help. Another staff member saw me walking with the board and asked if I need any help. Explained the situation. "Who told you this??" again. Seriously? There is only one guy helping out people in front of you right now. Then something strange happened. He took the board, started spinning it, and told me that they have a line of hundreds of people willing to buy the board with a defect at a full price, and they will sell it anyway, and that is how they do their business. That monolog lasted 5 minutes, I was shocked and walked away. That's insane. He could just apologize that they made a mistake when offered the discount and I would have bought it. Terrible...

Okay so we are giving this store only 2 stars. The main reason is because we were up stairs and there was a short young lady up there that was grabbing things for another family and well we waited there for 30 minutes and she never once said anything to us. Did not even acknowledge that we were waiting. So we found finally said do you mind grabbing us a pair of boots in a size. We knew what we wanted and she just had to grab them. When we asked she said okay will do that. Well she came back a couple times and nothing. Finally she said I will get someone for you. So another girl came up which was amazing. Super nice and super knowledgeable of the product. She was amazing. I mean I know we only spent 800 dollars here but I mean that is still a lot of money to most people. We went to another place and bought 2 pairs of goggles and two helmets. We just were not going to spend anymore money here. Very sad. Now the shop has everything you would want.
