I’ll preface this by saying I haven't written a negative review in recent memory, and rarely write reviews in general.
I have worked with Wagner on 3 separate occasions. Every experience up until this last one I would give 5/5 stars. The bench jewelers are knowledgeable and produce excellent finished work. The sales staff also are very friendly and helpful. They do a good job of making you feel welcome and keeping you updated on the status of ongoing projects.
I worked with Betsy and Grace on separate occasions, both great associates at Wagners.
Disclaimer, I am in the business as well, and have been using Wagner to fix and build items for me that I resell to my own customers.
Continuing on… everything had gone exceedingly well up to the final part of this 3rd (and unfortunately last) transaction.
I had them set two stones into an engagement ring for one of my clients. When I went to pick it up, I brought my reseller permit, as there had been confusion the last few times about my tax status.
By the way, whoever set these stones, excellent work. I am very pleased. You deserve a raise.
When I gave them the Washington State-issued reseller permit, the person helping me brought the permit to the back. They returned and told me that they could not remove the sales tax because they are not a wholesaler. I informed them that resellers are tax exempt, and are not obligated to pay sales tax, as they (me) are not the end user. I then insisted that they could remove the sales tax. She went to the back again.
Suddenly, a tall, skinny, red bearded fellow emerged from the back (I apologize for the description, he never gave me the satisfaction of knowing his name). He approached the counter and repeated the same thing I was told before “we can’t remove sales tax from this order.” I informed him that I am tax exempt and won’t be paying sales tax. He grumbled, “FINE, we will do the work.”
15 seconds of hard work later, he gave me the total. I responded that it didn’t sound like the total I had originally been quoted. Instead of showing me the original quote, he became combative, and just repeated the total over and over again, and started to argue with me, and made the comment in a condescending tone, “There’s a difference between a quote and an invoice.” As if I, the person who presented a reseller certificate doesn’t understand the concept of a quote.
We finally both looked at the pink slip that was in the package and discovered that I was incorrect. The total quote matched the invoice. What I was remembering was the first line item. I stood corrected and admitted fault. The point being, all he had to do was pull out the quote and compare it to the final invoice, he didn’t have to cop and attitude and argue with me.
He begrudgingly took the tax off, I paid, he gave me a receipt and I left as he stood over the counter, watching in an unwelcoming manner.
Betsy, Grace, the jewelers in the back doing the work, and everyone else. I give you 5/5 stars. I was hoping to do business with you all long-term, but now unfortunately will not be returning. My grandparents were long time customers for over 20+ years. They nor anyone in the family will be giving you business again.
Red beard, I give you a 1/5 stars. I encourage you to practice patience, and realize that the people at the other end of the counter are the reason you are able to feed your family. Treat them as such. Additionally, see RCW 82.08.130 and WAC 458-20-102. You are in violation of washington commerical law by refusing to remove sales tax when presented with a reseller permit.
To Wagner Jewelers, if you know what’s good for business, do not allow this guy to interact with customers. He’s condescending, unprofessional, and overall unpleasant to work with.
To all that go to Wagner Jewelers, go in knowing that they will provide good work, but if you aren't their preferred type of customer, they will eventually kick you to the curb.
If you are a business person looking to work with wagner on a wholesale basis,...
Read moreIt goes without saying that getting married can be stressful!
My husband and I are a perfect example. We've been together for ages, but didn't feel a pull towards "making it legal" and getting married until we realized just how many tax benefits we were missing out on.
We didn't want a big wedding, but we wanted to keep some traditions - such as wearing wedding rings. At the same time, I'm just not a diamond type of girl... so we needed to go custom!
Our dear friends had a fantastic experience designing less traditional wedding rings with Wagner, and they had an endless amount of good things to say about Wagner, so our choice was easy.
But even with getting a recommendation from a friend, we were absolutely blown away by the service and end product we received from these folks!!
Skylar was our point of contact and designer for the rings, and she is just an absolute dream. I honestly was so anxious about working with someone for a custom non-diamond wedding ring. I was dreading passive-aggressive comments about my tastes, income, and whatever else.
I should never have worried for even a second, though.
Skylar is amazing at what she does for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that she meets you where you are. Already know what type of setting you want for your main stone? She can make that happen. Don't know a bezel from a cathedral setting? She'll explain the pros and cons, and share her professional opinion on any topic you want.
Her insight was priceless throughout this process. For example, I was torn between an oval-shaped gem and a hexagon-shaped gem. We discussed aesthetics and design in terms that I could understand, which made me feel both supported and in control.
(What more could you want while prepping for your wedding, right?!)
It was SO much easier to plan our elopement with the help of Skylar and Wagner. We were able to focus our full attention on planning the big day, knowing our rings were squared away. But obviously, a great experience means nothing if the end result isn't worth it.
And it is SOOOOOOOO worth it. My husband is actually sad that he can't wear his wedding ring every day because we need to swing by and have it sized up a bit. That sadness comes from how much he loves his ring and wearing it. I never would've guessed in a million years that my fella would love the design of his ring so much that he's sad to not be able to wear it 24/7 yet!
Which brings me to another point: customer retention. How many times have you worked with a business on a big purchase, just for them to kick you to the curb as soon as your credit card payment clears?
That WON'T happen with Wagner. Skylar and the entire staff has been so kind in following up with us, letting us know how often to come in for maintenance/cleaning, and even helped us get started with insuring our rings by giving us all the necessary paperwork.
I know this review is getting long, so to summarize, this place does it ALL: -Great, friendly, personable service -Amazingly fair prices -Genuine dedication to helping you protect your new purchase -Authentic passion regarding all things jewelry, and a willingness to educate customers -Transparent business practices, including when Skylar told me Wagner didn't stock my preferred gemstone and pointed me towards Etsy to find one
I don't have a single critique. In fact, if anything, I'm slightly disappointed in our wedding photographer for not making sure our rings were perfectly positioned for these photos! The pics don't do justice to the gorgeous work you can expect from Wagner! I would 10000% recommend this place to absolutely anybody in need of wedding rings or any...
Read moreSince 1981, Doug Wagner and his brother, Jeff, have built Wagner Jewelers in Marysville into one of the Pacific Northwest's most successful family owned neighborhood jewelry stores. Despite expanding competition, Wagner Jewelers continues to thrive as something of an anachronism - a neighborhood jeweler, a very popular neighborhood jeweler. We've been here since 1981, growing from a small jewelry store to become a full-service jeweler.
We have our own selection of hand-picked items you wont find in other chain stores. Our staff includes two full time goldsmiths, with over 60 years experience, in the store to help design and create personalized jewelry and a GIA Diamond Graduate.
Cliche or not, personal service is the distinctive element that has made Wagner Jewelers both popular and successful. Community involvement has been another factor in their success. For the past 7 years, they have contributed to the Marysville Food Bank collecting over 2,000lbs of canned food at our annual Anniversary Sale in November. We also participate in the Everett Silvertips Hockey Club awarding players with the "Gem Of The Month" customized medallions.
Both Doug and Jeff grew up with their brother Greg on their parents' family farm in Harrington, 50 miles southwest of Spokane. Greg stayed at the farm while Doug headed to the University of Washington, graduated from Eastern Washington University and headed to Los Angeles. He found work with Zales Jewelry stores and then worked his way north, in one jewelry store after another. Meanwhile, Jeff attended Gonzaga University in Spokane then followed Doug's suggestion to try Fred Meyers jewelry departments in the Portland area. In 1981, Doug called Jeff to say there was an opportunity to open a jewelry store in the Kmart shopping center being built in Marysville and there was no other jeweler in town. Today, we are still here, but there are fewer other stores like ours - family owned, providing personal service and involved in their community. Very much aware of the rarity of our breed in today's marketplace, our motto continues to be:
Snohomish County Business...
