Really just wanted to respond after reading the store’s response to shoppers reviews regarding pricing, market value, etc yada yada. Goodwill used to be affordable, a community based donation center to help other less fortunate in the community. Then about 15 years ago or so Goodwill figured out they can list their items on e-commerce for several x the value they got out of the store sale, plus even better take the higher lux brand items and auction them, most items start at $10 (some are items that cost less brand new, others are luxury items that cost hundreds or more), the online shopper can get a great deal on a pricy lux item, like an LV for $200. However this business practice has to have increased Goodwil’s profits tremendously! They used to sell these items to local store shoppers for affordable true second-hand prices, and now not only did they take the really good quality items away from the local community in order to sell them on line at auction, the increased money made from those sales should have at least allowed the local stores to stay below market value (why is goodwill using phases like “fair market value based on brand and condition” when that’s what “for profit “ retailers do, what other “pre-owned goods” sellers do, not ones who are claiming to benefit communities. True there are organizations Goodwill supports and provides to communities, but the point of the stores also used to be a way to provide to the community, offer donated products at low price to residents who needed it. Now they are offering “fair market pricing” meaning competitive pricing with other retailers … hmmmm, doesn’t sound right. And again, the newly discovered money from on-line sales over the last decade + has definitely increased profits, so when you’re taking the really good brands and products out of the stores and out of the local shoppers chance to purchase, don’t also take their ability to buy the remaining less quality goods at affordable prices. It’s kind of sad, like a double punch, saying “you guys aren’t worth these nice products so we’ll sell them online to the highest bidder, but here’s some less-than stuff for...
Read moreYesterday I had an unpleasant moment with worker I did not get her name but she is Caucasian. Me and my family rarely come to this thrift store, and yesterday we decided to go since we were shopping at stores near this goodwill. At first everything was fine. I have a 4 year old and of course my daughter always likes looking and playing with the toys because what kid doesn’t do that. And I’m always supervising her or another adult that’s with us because I do not like it when she leaves toys on the floor and we always correct her when she does. So my daughter had just grabbed a board game and the little pieces that it had inside caught her attention and I let her touch it but I was right next to her supervising making sure that nothing would get lost so when she was done I’ll make sure everything is back to place. And the one worker walks by with a costumer (who she’s been talking too since I got there and 25 or 30 minutes had past by) and tells me in a rude way that my daughter was not allowed to play with the toys because then they get lost and have to throw them away. I didnt answer anything because she was right but she also didn’t know that the reason I was right next to my daughter was because of that same reason. And she proceeded to walk but as soon as she walked away with the male customer she made a comment about how it’s not a playground and both her and the customer started laughing and she continued to say more rude comments. After she made the first comment I just told her “ok, but you don’t need to be rude about!” I did not argue back because for one my daughter was right next to me and 2 I’m pregnant. After this I didn’t shop with the content anymore. I’m staying to my local thrift stores. Never have I’ve been told that a child is not allowed to play with the toys in any other thrift store or have been treated that way. Mind you this was not the first time she was rude to me it was...
