We were in town for some wine tasting and went to breakfast at Wildwood, across the street, which was fantastic. I saw the wooden plaque of spools on the side. First clue - quilt shop. Went window shopping first and saw a quilt that I really liked - great colors and quilt. Once it opened, I went back and asked if they had a kit and pattern. Marie, one of the workers was great to help me. She brought me over to the area where the fabric was and told me she thought they have enough fabric to make a kit for me to pick up later. They also had some great new lines of Christmas fabrics for tree skirts I am making and backing of quilt. I was so impressed with the staff, selection of fabric that by far I would shop here again. Even from Nebraska. When I went back the next day to get the kit and purchased a great one sheet on making continuous bias binding. A great up sell. After going to the Sisters Quilt Shop, greatly disappointing, this is the place to go to go! The selection of fabric, notions, sale fabric, sewing machines and the staff was wonderful. This is a place that I know to call and ask what they have to purchase to finish up a quilt. Also for an additional $1 you could purchase a punch card that does not expire to be used. I went through one and a half already. I would come back to McMinville and stop at this...
Read moreI love Boersma's Sewing Center, Inc. I call Boersma's my "Happy Place."
Staff is fabulous from the shop employees who answer technical questions, find obscure parts for sewing and maintaining one's machines to the women upfront who keep the product organized and beautiful.
The women upfront know everything you could ever throw at them from sewing technic to how to match fabric you love but can't figure out what fabrics to combine it with--they are like savants that way.
Jack and Michelle Boersmas are wonderful owners and treat their staff like their own family (even when life events shatter the lives of their staff, Jack and Michelle have been known to shelter their own from life's storms graciously).
It's no wonder one can feel the warmth and hometown flavor of this store that was created and run by Boersmas since 1935 (wow, eleven years from now Boersmas will celebrate its Centennial).
How's that song lyric go, "When you're alone and life is making you lonely, you can always go to Boersma's!"
(Except Sundays, they have to have a break those workers, they!)
Maple Leaf (R) - on display at Boersmas Sewing currently (exquisite quilts on display, ever changing--all the time). It's like going to an art gallery or...
Read moreYesterday my friend and I went to Boersma's for the first time. We were both astounded at the selection of fabrics, kits, unique patterns and supplies Quilting is only part of what is highlighted in the store as there are other fun and unique sewing options offered. The store reminds me of the fabric stores of yesteryear, which no longer exist, but allowed you to browse for hours among all the beautiful bolts of fabric, various patterns and supply options, letting creativity flow. If you go in on your birthday you will receive 25% off on all regular priced purchases. They also have a punch card that when filled is worth $$ in the store. There are many beautiful quilts on display, which is very inspiring and so many quilt patterns to choose from, any quilter would find this store a dream come true. The customer service was exceptional with staff happy to answer any questions or help with finding specific fabrics, patterns or kits. Overall, it was an amazing experience. I cannot recommend Boersma's more highly. Anyone who likes to quilt or sew in general should not miss this awesome store!!! We can't wait...
