Every spring and summer I end up making visits to Yamhill county. This place is one of my favorite places in the area and it makes me want to visit all their other Oregon locations (El Torito markets in Salem, Eugene, Lincoln City, Woodburn, Klamath). Should be up there with the other well regarded Oregon-local businesses that succeed enough to be regional chains.
Both a great market and phenomenal taqueria. I specifically buy two quarts of their roja salsa for my food at home, goes great on anything.
Married to a Mexican woman 10+ yrs and we moved to OR from Chicago. As an old Pollock, I used to discount my sense of taste in Mexican and defer when I was younger but this place is undeniably good on everything, and I can't get over it because it's hiding in plain sight. The carnitas and pozole (even just the arroz y frijoles makes my 5 year old do a small " happy dance") hit the spot as good as our favorite family run 'back of the carniceria' places throughout Chicago. People used to line up early in the morning at the door for carnitas at places by my old homes that still don't match the level of quality of this place.
Sweetest people running the store too. Makes the 45 minute drive from Beaverton worth it every time even if I wasn't there anyway just finding an excuse to avoid Washington County on a Saturday. A...
Read moreMy 1st visit a couple days ago. They have really good precooked carnitas 😋🤤👍🏻
But mainly I wanted to thank all of the staff that (though they didn’t speak English), they were very helpful, friendly and patient with me and my horribly limited Spanish skills.
Unfortunately the only person that spoke English (a taller chunky lady) was NOT helpful or friendly. She seemed racist towards me. (I’m half Puerto Rican but I look white) so she wouldn’t know. But the way she spoke to me and looked at me made me feel very uncomfortable and even though I wasn’t done shopping I didn’t feel comfortable and needed to leave. I purchased what I had and left. 🙁 I hope her manager has a talk with her and her poor customer service and poor attitude so they don’t lose business because of her.
Since I needed more stuff still for the carne asada I purchased the other day, I asked my husband (who is Mexican and speaks fluent Spanish) to go by there after work today to buy the items I didn’t.
I only wish they would put prices on everything. Without prices marked it makes it difficult to shop on a budget.
I’ll update this review if needed once he comes...
