I joined Rise Fitness : Medina in 2018 and absolutely loved the gym and the employees. Unfortunately, for reasons I was not privy to, they made the decision to close, but were saved for a brief time before they decided to close for good at the end of 2018. There was a sign posted at the front desk one day that said something to the effect of “We are sorry we are closing. Thank you for your support. We will stop billing you at the end of December 2018.”
I went to a new gym in Medina and was under the impression that the sign posted by the gym itself was accurate.
Rise Fitness was purchased by new owners who kept it open, but with whom I never signed a contract.
I noticed today that Rise Fitness was still charging me a monthly membership fee. I thought for sure this was an oversight because Rise Fitness told me that I would not be charged after December 2018.
I called and spoke with Amanda. I explained the situation and asked why my membership had not been cancelled. She stated that an email was sent to all Rise members telling them that the memberships would stay active. I don’t have any emails from Rise Fitness, including an email that says I would still be charged a monthly fee after the gym itself told me they were closing.
I explained that I had not attended Rise Fitness since December 2018, and surely she could understand that the last info I received was that they were closing, so I would like a refund for the last 3 months that I was charged. She replied that based on policy, she would not refund the money, but she’s would cancel the membership (the same membership that should have been cancelled in December 2018).
I asked to speak with an owner, and Amanda explained that she was an owner, and that she would not be issuing a refund.
$35 per month for 3 months is $105. I hope that was worth it for this negative review of your business. It could have gone a completely different way, but decisions were made, and based on my policy, I decided to make it known to the Google-verse.
I’m curious how many other members don’t realize that the gym they thought was closing is still taking their money each month. I suppose that’s one way to earn a profit.
Snap fitness in Medina has been wonderful since I made the switch in...
Read moreThere's so many great things to say about this gym that I don't know where to start! I've been a member for a little over a year now and also take classes, plus my daughter goes to their little kiddie daycare several days a week. I love all the classes I've taken there so far (they switch them up once in awhile, so it's never the same for too long- which I love! All of the instructors are great!) and their employees that work In the kiddie room are awesome with the kids (and the front desk ofcourse). I was a member atvthe medina recreational center for years and I tried out snap fitness(both are not impressive at all)... medina rec was charging me 54$ a month for daycare alone and that was when I was taking my daughter with me only twice per week! Plus their classes which are 48$ a month (which I took one class and didn't like it so I started looking for other gyms at that point) and then the membership cost which is pretty ridiculous even for being a resident! At Rise Fitness, I pay a total of 54$ a month all together!! This includes membership, classes, and unlimited daycare in this price! I can only speak highly of this gym and hope they keep up the great work! If you haven't tried them out you need to give them a chance 😊
P.s.- did I mention they're open 24 hours a day and have a smoothie bar? Also when you join rise fitness, you get a discount at palm beach tan, which is...
Read moreI was a member for a few summers (mainly because it is located close to where I live). When I left for school the owner recommended that I freeze my account for 6 months, never once did he bring up the fact that they would automatically start recharging me once the 6 month period ended. Without my authorization AND without any notice to me, they charged my credit card with fees that nearly added up to $100! The worst part is they did this nearly 3 months after the freeze should have ended and included late charges on top of that! The ethics of this small business are highly questionable. After doing some research I found that I was not the only member that this circumstance applied to. Please be advised that billing procedures with Rise Fitness are very manipulative. When I called to try to solve it the worker seemed almost annoyed that I was looking for some type of refund and was very short tempered. Normally they were friendly but once I mentioned that I would be officially ending my account her attitude changed. Again I can see in the other reviews that this is NOT the first time that there have been problems with payment afterwards, and I encourage double checking everything if you choose to do business with them...
