UPDATE:
Thank you for your reply, but I find it disingenuous and selective in what it chooses to address.
A more detailed email of my review was sent a week before I posted. Crickets! If you were surprised, you're not paying attention to your inbox or customers.
At the time of purchase, no planting instructions were provided—verbally or in print. Telling customers after the fact to take a photo of a care sheet is not the same as proactively equipping them with guidance. If proper planting is so critical to your guarantee, why wasn’t this communicated up front?
Your follow-up support was slow, vague, and reactive. Yes, we reached out multiple times—and we did initially receive the suggestion that the tree may have been planted too deep. But even after we followed your advice, you failed to respond to my follow up questions and provided no additional actionable advice beyond general speculation. At no point did you offer a solution or pathway to a resolution.
Your claim that the guarantee doesn’t apply due to declined soil/fertilizer purchases is an outright lie. It was never mentioned to us until it was too late. That’s a conveniently retroactive excuse. If those purchases are a condition of your guarantee, that needs to be made crystal clear at the point of sale. Otherwise, it just sounds like a loophole to avoid accountability.
We sought help in person and via email. We clearly communicated to your staff, and to you, our desire to receive a replacement tree. Our frustration—and this review—only came after you and your team consistently deflected responsibility, failed to provide real support, and left us with a dead tree and no resolution.
I have yet to hear anything remotely close to "you should have received all of the tools necessary to be successful with your tree at the time of purchase and we apologize if that didn't happen. How can we make this right?"
The fact that more effort is being put into defending your position here than was ever invested in helping us resolve the issue says everything about how this business handles customer concerns.
Your version of events doesn’t reflect our experience, and I stand by my review.

Extremely disappointed with our experience at Greensmith. We bought a Weeping Larch in May and were given no planting instructions—just a verbal "1-year guarantee." When the tree showed signs of stress, we immediately went to the store. The staff, although very polite, offered no helpful advice and only then mentioned a "tips for planting your tree" care sheet that we had to take a picture of.
Despite following their instructions exactly, our follow-up messages were mostly ignored or met with vague, unhelpful replies. Returning to the store for assistance again only led to more confusion and zero solutions.
The owner put more energy into putting the blame on us and getting out of their "guarantee" than he did in properly communicating with, and assisting/supporting his customer. Their flyer is full of propaganda and false statements.
This business fails to educate customers, train staff, or honor their supposed guarantee. They don’t stand by their products or offer real support. A disappointing experience from...
Read moreI recently purchased a tree from Greensmith in Medina at 3875 Pearl Road, hoping for a quality experience and some basic care advice. Unfortunately, I was deeply disappointed from start to finish. There was lack of customer support and no planting instructions given at the time of purchase. The staff told me if I kept my receipt there is a year guarantee - NOT TRUE. The tree died within 3 weeks. Email support was given however, rather than offering a replacement or compensation, I was essentially blamed for planting it incorrectly - especially since I had no instructions to reference. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM GREENSMITH in MEDINA. Go to Boyert's in Medina instead. They stand behind their product and offer excellent customer service! Here is a firm, clear, and professional review that refutes Greensmith’s misleading response, outlines our experience, and highlights the issues:
1-Star Review
We are extremely disappointed with both the product and the customer service we received from Greensmith. The response from the business owner claiming we had previously purchased and planted the same tree is completely FALSE – that was our first and only purchase from Greensmith regarding that particular tree. And again, DID NOT RECEIVE planting instructions at time of purchase.
The owner claims he provided step-by-step advice but this advice was minimal and unhelpful. Despite providing clear photos of the issues (NO NEED TO POST THESE PHOTOS again as Greensmith received previously via email), the blame was continually shifted to us – the customer – rather than taking any responsibility or providing a mutual beneficial resolution to this issue.
Also, their so-called “encouragement” to contact them directly is misleading – the only communication ever recommended to us was through email ONLY, which is impersonal and slow, with no real effort to resolve the situation. Their proposed solution was that there was water under the root ball which simply was not true as we had already ruled this out and clearly explained that. We asked for further advice and did not receive a reply.
This is unfortunate that the owner continues to deflect blame rather than acknowledging any fault in their process. Please refer to original review on Greensmith submitted by Michael Greenman on/about 8/5/25 for highlights of our awful experience with Greensmith.
Again, we recommend purchasing from BOYERT’s in Medina as they stand behind their products and provide excellent...
Read moreI am not sure what to say about this place yet. We have stopped in three times. The staff is wonderful. Cheerful and friendly. They are engaging and treat customers like friends. I have never found a better staff anywhere and immediately felt at home. Their selection of garden plants, however, is very limited. In April there was almost nothing, pansies, a few houseplants and lots things like lotions and scent waxes. In June, decent, but limited compared to other area centers. My last stop in was mid July. We were looking for JP roses as no one sells them anymore. I had been looking at other places since spring and decided to stop in despite it being a bit too hot for planting roses. They only had a few knockout roses, but I may have missed other types between stopins. At that time, many of the garden plants were in poor shape but they appeared to be trying to sell them at full price. Houseplants are a bit hodgepodge but there have been some unusual varieties. One particular sanseveria actually seemed to have two or three different tiny plants in the pot, as if someone had separated them off mature plants and stuck them in a pot together. And, by the way, I have been growing plants for 30 years and sanseverias are my favorite. These were two inch plants, not a mature plant with pups, what looked like a black coral, a laurenti, and a zeylanica . Several pots contained 2 inch pups only. This one caught my eye because if they all survived, a person could get a good deal by getting more that one variety... so it isn't a bad thing, just odd. Again, this is not a negative. Rather it seems someone knows houseplants well and can produce young plants. We found some prices that were significantly higher than other garden centers. Others were really good deals. I bought a pepperomia and my daughter bought an alocasia. This center is very new and still seems to be finding it's niche, but well worth a stop in. If you are looking for the variety of, say Petites, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for staff to treat you well, take time to talk about the plants, or just offer friendly chit chat, definitely stop in. Personally, I...
