I love going to Hobby Lobby! It's like a candy store but for creatives! It is generally a large store with a vast quantity of different products and services such as crafts for DIY projects, house decor, seasonal decorations & ideas, art supplies & equipment, jewelry making items, and even has a framing dept. for pictures! A true creative could spend hours in this store just looking at all the different types of things which are possible to create. They even have an assortment of different brands and styles to choose from in different categories such as art paint brushes, canvases, painting mediums and papers. Most of which are not professional grade, yet I do think they carry a small Arches watercolor pad. Most of the art and sketch paper is student or amateur based, but still has variations on sizes, textures and whether it's cold pressed. It is a great way for a beginner to start off, as the paper is sufficient quality and tear proof when learning new techniques and mediums. I'm sure to keep such a large quantity in stock with the idea of making money, it is best for the store to carry less expensive items which will sell more quickly than the expensive professional products that most cannot afford. Trust me, there is a huge difference in pricing! Same with the paint mediums and supplies. Of course one would love to have the best quality of materials to put their ideas down into expressionistic art form, however the costs of carrying high end professional products would not sell as quickly as the standard student grades. Most of their paint is student grade, however you can find some smaller tubes of professional brands. I would suggest becoming familiar with the differing options before you go to the store, or ask your teacher so that you are more acquainted with how a medium performs to get an idea of which is best suited for your needs. In reality there's not a lot of difference for the beginner, but as you continue to grow and expand as a professional you will notice the fluency of liquids and get more in depth into color pigmentation. That's why professional artists prefer professional paints and products, and why they cost much more. Each item that you use will in fact become easier with more experience and professional products at hand; from your paper to your paints and even the types of brushes and tools you utilize. A true tried and tested theory by all. But back to reality and what the store offers, is a comparable substitute, at an affordable price across the board. It also offers many pens, charcoal sticks, blending mediums, colored pencils & pens for sketching, brush cleaners, paint thinners, sponges & effects, oils, pastels, chalks, erasers, and many more fascinating products! They even have small how-to sheets on how to use many of the products listed which is a big help when you're not sure what to choose or what it's used for. I spend most of my time in this area of the store as an artist so am familiar with the product lines and effectiveness. There's always something new to learn even after many years of painting, and there's always some new creative flow or element you may want to try. This is the place I go to for that. It gives me the opportunity to try something new without the worry of experiencing it at a higher price, and the stress of 'messing it up if it goes wrong! As far as the store itself, it is always in a clean and organized manner that I can appreciate. The aisles are wide and easy to maneuver and each dept is set up so that you can browse freely without interruptions, even if there are other shoppers in the aisle. Usually they have a huge inventory so there is plenty in stock so I don't have to come back, or order and wait for it. As discussed prior, there is a vast amount of diversity in products so you can choose which one you think fits you best in each category. There's always a choice, and generally if you can't locate what your looking for, store employees have always been cheerful and courteous in attempting to help. Prices are great, and look for mobile...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy daughter and I went there this evening to shop for items for her classroom. I was walking around the isles looking at all the nice items they always have. I needed to use the restroom and called my daughter (we had separated in the store) to ask where the bathroom was. Unbeknownst to us we were being followed around by two employees. As my daughter waited outside the bathroom for me she decided to go to the fabric department for more items for her classroom. Keep in mind I had NO merchandise in my hand or on my person when I went into the restroom. As I walked out there was an employee waiting outside the bathroom for me only to realize that she had made a HUGE mistake by watching me like I had done something wrong and walked away quickly. I was instantly upset because I knew what had just happened to me. I waited until we checked out to ask the second employee who had been following us if she was the manager she said no and pointed out who the manager was. I asked the manager if her employees normally follow customers to the bathroom who have NO merchandise in their hands? She said no and asked who was following us. I described the first employee and the cashier as the second employee that was following us. The manager stated that they had been told of suspicious activity or behavior (I canāt remember which word she used) and that it was a customer with a floral dress on and a man and woman (which neither my daughter nor myself were wearing a floral dress and no man was with us) I expressed that itās obvious we were NOT the ones ābeing suspiciousā but being treated like we had been. This is unacceptable and definitely disappointing that this happened. These employees have NO CLUE how wrong they were about my daughter and I. One thing for sure, I will never shop there again. I will take my business elsewhere.
On a positive note, the employee at the fabric department (I didnāt catch her name) that helped my daughter and I was absolutely awesome. She was very friendly, helpful, informative of the items they had, and showed my daughter different options to choose from. She was awesome and had the best customer service....

Hobby Lobby was so intoxicating that my fiancƩ, now my brand new 1st HUSBAND, went back the very next day after our wedding!
My husband came back home from Hobby Lobby with a bunch of wall art, including a nostalgic wonder-woman picture for his "man-cave" walls! šš¤£
Anyway, if you want a Disneyland-type experience for adults, to shop till you drop, this Hobby Lobby in Mesa is the place. It is a huge store and you can get some exercise as well to rationalize the shopping guilt. However, the prices are very reasonable!
I was seeking some last minute wedding party decorations such as "FLOATING-CANDLES" to light up and float on the water of our pool, during the wedding ceremony at dusk! A beautiful touch and hard to find at a "walk-in" store! They cost a mere .99 cents a piece!! Cha-Ching... SOLD!!
Thank you Hobby Lobby, we had a beautiful and very successful wedding this Monday after visiting your store. We will be back again and again now that we found Hobby Lobby!
