First of all we placed a phone order with a 30 minute wait time. I am breastfeeding mother whose baby has a dairy allergy and I had specific questions as to which sauces of wings have dairy or if their appetizers have dairy. The hostess was completely untrained in allergies and said if the food was on the gluten free menu it would be safe for me to eat uh no...gluten and dairy are completely different. No where on the website does it mention dairy avoidance so I was completely dependent upon her knowing accurate information. I can imagine this being a big issue for other customers. We get there and the hostess took 15 minutes to even get to us to ask us what we were there for. Then we wait another 10 minutes for the hostess to come back and tell us they lost our order and then we would have to wait another 15 minutes for the order. She helps other customers and comes back and says she found our order. The manager come backs and hands me my order and the order is barely warm practically cold. I told her it was cold and she said that it shouldn't be it was in the hot box (totally dismissive and clueless). Then I check the order and the forgot the salad and part of my wing order. I had to wait another 10 minutes for them to cook it. Then the manager again comes out and hands me the wings (no apologies no offer to comp us for our time nothing). The hostess stays in the back another 10 minutes and finally returns and asks us what we need and I'm like we need to pay. (Seriously was half tempted to walk out and ditch them at this point). 45 minutes waiting in the restaurant to seriously get our cold and soggy food totally not worth the $95 we paid. Not to mention 2 other customers were there 1 had their order lost and the other one had been waiting ahead of us for their order the whole time I was there and they didn't get their food either. Poor customer service and management. We love native but we won't be visiting for a LONG time especially at...
Read moreI've been eating at Native New Yorker since they opened up on McClintock and Baseline in the early 80's. A small quaint family place. There were maybe 8 or 10 small Tables in the dining area. Many times we would have to wait an hour or two before we got a table but we didn't mind cuz we knew our eating experience was going to be great. Wings were ten cents. While we waited on our wings they served us cheese and crackers at no extra cost. Our wings were served with all the celery and blue cheese dressing that we wanted. Prices remained at ten cents thru when they franchised out and eventually increased to twenty five cents a piece. It has been a few years since I have eaten at a Native. I just called to order a dozen medium wings with hot sauce on the side and asked for blue cheese and celery not ranch and carrots. They tend to get soggy by the time I get home so that is why I order that way. I was told the wings would be $12 and change and the hot sauce would be extra and so would the blue cheese and celery. Are you freaking kidding me? If I had them put the hot sauce on there they would not charge me. I was not asking for anything extra. I would have paid a little extra for the blue cheese and celery but I'll be damned if I am going to pay over a dollar a piece for chicken wings. Its highway robbery. I am going to go to Fry's and buy my own wings and make my own sauce and buy a my own celery. I have blue cheese at home and I guarantee you they will be just as good if not better and will cost way less than a buck a piece. These franchisees have destroyed what Native New Yorker was meant to be. Wow I was just looking at their menu. Native New Yorker had a huge menu with a vast variety to choose from. Not a single one if their signature specialties have been carried on. You can go to Jack in the Box and have a better eating experience. I would be ashamed to have my name associated with this so called good eatery. For shame, for...
Read moreThis was a tough call given how long I've been coming here. 6 months ago, this would have been a 4-5 star review.
The food is used to be pretty good but I don't what happened because it is starting to go downhill. Don't get me wrong. For the most part, the food is decent, especially if you've never been there. But for someone who's been going there for years, it definitely isn't like it used to be.
I only go there for wings on Tuesday. Despite my review, that's still the best value. The quality of preparing the wings has been going downhill. The most dissapointing item are the fries. They used to serve the best fries in town. They tasted like they were battered in something before they fry them and they used to come out super crispy on the outside but perfectly cooked on the inside. A couple of months ago, i went there to order the usual, and the fries baskets were as plain as they can be. For a second i thought we ordered the wrong type of fries. I asked the waitress and she made it seem like those were the same type of fries but that she would go and ask the kitchen if they changed anything and that she would be get us new baskets. She did bring us a new batch but they were exactly the same. I was dissapointed but figured that it was just a bad night for the kitchen or maybe they ran out of the usual fries. I went back there again more recently and the fries were again very plain. When I asked again about them they claimed that they are the same exact fries they have always served. That really ticked me off because it made me feel like I was in a twilight zone episode. I was talking to a friend of mine recently who also takes his family there all the time, and the first thing he said when I brought up the subject is how dissapointed he was with how they changed...
