I am extremely dissatisfied with this gym, without exception. My dissatisfaction primarily stems from my interactions with the staff and the questionable business practices of Powerhouse. Over the past few months, I've been repeatedly charged despite not having set foot in this gym for months. I spoke with Brooklyn, who assured me they would terminate my membership after this unauthorized charge, only to discover another charge on my card this morning. Despite living far from the area, they failed to uphold their promise of canceling my membership, let alone offering a refund for the unauthorized transaction, which I find bordering on fraudulent.
It's evident that their focus is solely on extracting money from members rather than catering to their needs. Surprisingly, this establishment doesn't even provide complimentary towels, a common amenity in the majority of gyms. They expect members to pay $30 for a single towel, an exorbitant fee by any ethical standard. When questioned, the staff's response was a dismissive "Well, this is Brickell." Moreover, if you wish to consistently use their towels, you're compelled to fork out an additional $45 per month on top of your subscription. Considering the membership fees, the parking pass should grant unlimited access, not a paltry two-hour allowance. In the women's restroom, they don't even offer free sanitary products, forcing members to pay or contend with empty dispensers in emergencies. Most gyms I've frequented provide these basic essentials and more at a lower monthly cost. There are numerous other hidden fees and charges that I won't enumerate here. These unethical business practices reveal a company solely interested in maximizing profit, with no regard for customer satisfaction.
The gym's atmosphere reflects typical Miami culture, rife with "influencers," especially during peak hours. It's reached a point where working out becomes nearly impossible, as someone is bound to take offense if you accidentally enter their camera frame while they're filming themselves. To exacerbate matters, the locker rooms are off-limits during peak hours, as these individuals occupy them for impromptu photoshoots, leaving no space to change without the risk of appearing in their photos, which they may post without consent. I personally experienced bullying from a group of women for both my appearance and for daring to change in a space they were occupying for their media projects. This toxic environment borders on psychological abuse and, while not Powerhouse's fault, is indicative of the gym's culture and behavior it tolerates.
This gym is unsuitable for serious lifters seeking efficiency and convenience. Opting for a smaller, less crowded gym would likely yield better results. My experience has left me profoundly disappointed, as I had high hopes, only to witness this company fall short of...
Read moreCharging to cancel a gym membership and itâs $125 (well over the price of a monthâs fee) is insane. There are plenty of other gyms nearby which are more welcoming and have just as good if not better quality. Miami Strong. Elev8tion. Etc. even UFC Midtown.
I am friends with a former employee who has told me previously how shady the managers and membership administration is and he said they are just trying to take pplâs money which confirms what Iâve since experienced.
đ¨ DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM đ¨
Read the rest of my experience below âŹď¸
I filled out a cancellation form back in April 2024 with the morning front desk employee; which he said would be taken care of and a membership administrator would reach out to me. I was out of town dealing with a death in my family and received an unexpected charge in May. The cancellation was never facilitated and they are saying I need proof it was done; as the employee all of sudden stopped working there.
I called a manager at FLL location (Luis I think was his name) who said it was a mistake and would be taken care of. He all of sudden wasnât working there when I was charged again in June. I disputed with my bank and the GM Loradana was extremely inconsiderate and hyper aggressive unwilling to be any bit of understanding and putting all the onus on me to prove things the gym itself is responsible for. I spoke to Amanda and she was the opposite of Loradana and listened and understood that mistakes happen and so I decided to keep my membership solely because of our convo and freeze it instead.
Fast forward and there was an issue with my freeze and itâs now December and Iâm getting a notice from collections randomly simply over two months of a gym membership. Just smh! Never have I seen a gym want to take someoneâs money so badly and with such aggression in all my years of going to gyms.
I was willing to put all of this aside and even cancelled my bankâs dispute of over $200 in fees initially but no way now. I will dispute those fees, contact the owner or sue as this is the most ridiculous situation Iâve seen and it needs to be addressed. They wonât get one penny from me unless the owner something about this and management because this is a badly operated gym thatâs just looking to take pplâs money and itâs why they are struggling for memberships. I can just work out in my gymâs building and save my money.
I will do further reviews online and on social media and put this gym on blast all over as I am an influencer who does gym reviews and ppl need to know which ones to avoid. There are a ton of negative reviews on here confirming these...
Read moreThis place has really gone downhill. I liked it at first because it has good hours and is clean and has good equipment (the only positives) but the majority of the other members are inconsiderate asshats, and some of the staff members are very unprofessional. Thank God my membership is month month because I will be canceling it for the following reasons.
It is now crowded at all hours. Certain items such barbell clips are impossible to find so you must bring your own. Frequently during the later hours the ladies bathroom will be closed off for a half hour or more due to cleaning. I drink a lot of water during my work out and this is very annoying because sometimes I really have to go. Why canât they do this after the gym closes? The other members are the worst. In just the past couple weeks some moron decided it would be a good idea to pick up plates that were leaning against my squat rack, while I already had the barbell on my back. Had I not reracked, this would have been a barbell to his cranium. The next week there was some girl in a miniskirt not even there to work out, dancing right by the side of the platform when I was trying to do deadlifts. This is very common that there are people there taking up space and equipment that are not there to work out at all, just to take selfies and make stupid tick-tockâs.
The final straw was the staff. This place is not LA fitness bad when it comes to re-racking weight, but most the time people will not re-rack their plates after squatting or dead lifting so you never know what is in use or not. I am one of the few members that always reracks their weights and wipes down equipment after use, however, I went to hip thrust in the barbell hip thrust area and one of the barbells was pre-loaded with 45 pound plates, which is pretty normal at any gym considering itâs the starting weight for most people and you do not then have to load these on the barbell. I added another 45 pound plate to both side and proceeded to do my sets. When I was done, I reracked the plates that I had added, but left the initial 45s that were already on the barbell. One of the gym employees proceeds to find me then on the other side of the gym and scold me for ânot re-racking my weightsâ I explained that I did ReRack the ones I added to which I was rudely met with a âare you sure? â I certainly did not appreciate being accused of doing the very thing that I find most annoying about this gym to begin with. Very rude and unprofessional. If the staff could only put that kind of energy towards the real problems, this could be a good place but...
