Visiting in Columbus, and was looking for a local barbershop for a shave. Definitely glad I called - had a relaxing hot towel shave and head shave accompanied by great music and even better conversation. Highly recommend Mug & Brush to anyone looking for anything from a regular cut to a hot shave. Anytime I find myself needing a cut while in the Columbus area again, I'll be returning here for sure. Service, conversation, and quality are all top notch!
EDITED TO UPDATE: Aug. 2020 Greetings Googlers! I'm hoping Google will bump this review for visibility since it's a year old, but I'll post another copy/5* anyways, just 'cause y'all deserve it! And most important part first - M&B is doing a phenomenal job keeping things clean and comfortable for clients. As of this writing (24 Aug 2020) they are open by appointment only. I've been back twice in as many months and feel more than comfortable visiting (this from a man who gets a beard shape/trim, so that's saying A LOT).
I'm excited to announce that since last year:
I'm not saying one caused the other, but if a barbershop WERE good enough to relocate for, it would definitely look and feel like Mug and Brush. From the decor to the attention to the back bars to the people that make it an awesome place to return to; this place is a Columbus institution.
My S.O. was kind enough to treat me to a "manpering" and got me a gift certificate to return here, as she remembered how highly I spoke of them after my last visit. Thanks to her, Santana has given me 2 phenomenal experiences here in the past few months. I've had a number of hot shaves over the years, but none where I left feeling like a met a new friend - Enter: Mug and Brush. The owner (I believe) was there solo on my first visit, reviewed above, and I carried on a conversation with him like we were old friends. Santana has been no different; I instantly felt comfortable, chatting almost like we were acquaintances catching up after not seeing each other for 10 years. Her attention to detail is incredible; she takes more pride in her work than most people I know - and it shows. She also turned me onto a new beard oil/balm - The Bearded Pup - locally made just an hour and a half south of here. I'll have a review for them forthcoming, as well. Long story short, Mug and Brush - in all of the pieces and people that compose it - make a haircut an experience.
And to any guys out there looking for a hot scalp shave - this is your place! 10/10, Highly recommend,...
Read moreI have been going to the mug & brush for years now and I'll be truthful, this place is worthy of 5 stars. As soon as their second location opened up I absolutely needed to come out and see the new shop. It was way closer to me than Columbus and had that small shop charm.
As soon as I started going here I switched from seeing Jim to seeing Santana. Both of which are amazing and easy to talk to. My first time seeing Santana I had a long beard and short hair where I was thinning at the top. I was in denial about my hair and covered it up with hats mostly at the time when going out. When she asked what I wanted to do with my hair I said I had no idea and explained how I felt towards it. She told me that I could try shaving my head and see how it looks and reassured me that my head would look fine shaved ( to be honest I thought my head would look like a car with hail damage).
We shaved my head and trimmed up my beard and when I saw the results It was not good... it was f#$%ing amazing! It was the first time in years I've looked at myself and thought I actually looked attractive. After that, I'm a life long customer and was the first time I almost tipped the same amount as the actual...
Read moreBeen coming here since the end of last year. I have received some pretty bangin haircuts in that time. A week before the World Cup, I showed JIM MORRIS a picture of Nabil Fekir (one of my favorite players) and asked him to hit me with his cut. This man looked at this picture for about 10 seconds and all of a sudden I was looking rather french. Fade 10/10, Part 10/10, and Comb Over 10/10. And, as the gods smiled on my cut, they smiled on my team. Naturally France won the World Cup. Thus, Jim Morris' good juju secured that World Cup. Vive les Bleus.
Jim is the best barber I've ever had. I also watched another barber named Tori give a dude a pretty fly fix up while I there too. Pretty sure everyone at Mug and Brush can slang...
