I had my first appointment here today for a full set with Timm after searching high and low for a new nail technician in Utah after moving from Dallas, Texas.

After jumping around numerous highly-rated nail salons in Salt Lake City, any hope of finding someone that can execute my high expectations and picky preferences were quickly being extinguished. I am VERY big on quality. This includes the base foundation, shape, design, cost, and customer service. My issues with the previous nail salons I’ve been to had areas where they can improve and nothing there gave me a reason to stay. Which led me to Gem Nails. I looked through the reviews and photos and decided to book an appointment. I was quite hesitant at first due to the small amount of reviews compared to others. I’ve come to find out this salon is fairly new and only opened a couple of months ago. I am so glad I did!

It is safe to say that my search for a new nail tech is over. Timm is very friendly and pleasant. He also doesn’t try to force a conversation if you go nonverbal, which I like. Our interaction was genuine and authentic. What really caught me by surprise is his attention to detail, perfectionism, and overall skill level. As soon as he applied the acrylic on my nail and built on it, I knew I found my new tech. He is very precise, so much so that the acrylic before all the filing and adjustments looked so much better than a lot of “finished” products I’ve seen. His base and shape is solid. His artistic design skills and linework blew me out the water. Lines remain solid and steady instead of a squiggly mess. He checked on me multiple times throughout my appointment to make sure everything was to my liking. I didn’t have much input to give other than some nods and a couple “yes, that’s good!” I think he doesn’t even know the extent of how picky I am because he was so perfect, haha!

My experience here was enjoyable and I will definitely be back. Timm is an amazing nail tech and this location has a lot of potential! The ambience is very homey and the relationship between the workers here is like that of family. It was very cute to watch. You will not...

Gem nails is a nice salon with reasonable rates. However, I have been their twice and both visits the nail tech nicked by the cuticle nippers or the electric nail file and caused me to bleed. No apology from the tech for either instances, just a spray of stinging alcohol spray. This time the nicks have caused me lasting discomfort as 3 days later and they still have no healed, as can be seen by my photos.

I think what added to my frusteration of my second visit was that the nail tech seemed irriated at me simply because I asked for a slightly more difficult design of ombre sparkles. I sensed her dissaproval of me the entire appointment and she was pretty short with me which made me uncomfortable. I would book ahead specifically with a nail tech that has good reviews, is patient and has extra close attention to detail rather than risking walk in experiences...

Gem Nails is Amazing! Today I was lucky enough to tag along with my wife, brother and sister in law and our two nieces on a lovely “girls” day. We called last minute and were able to make a reservation for the 6 of us. We even showed up a little early, without fret the amazing technicians jumped into action and were extremely friendly. In my opinion they went above and beyond. They seated us quickly and even brought us soft drinks and waters. And for the little girls juice and Cheetos…

The salon is newly remodeled and kept extremely clean. Our experience was very relaxing, all of our nails turned out great! We all left with big smiles on our face. Thank you Gem nails for taking such great care...
