If I could give this place a 0 star I would. My experience with this place was one of the most humiliating experience I've ever had. Not to long ago I stop to seek employment there. I was interviewed by the General manager and the interview was just awful. I was treated as if I were an undocumented person, with little or no education. During my interview I was asked in different ways why I wanted to work there. I was also asked why I could not work specific days, the general manager was so focus on this and wanted to know specifically the reasons on why I could not work the days I put on the application. My answer to that was that I schedule all personal life activities on my days off including my doctors appointments. As soon as I said that, he was to appoint confrontational an eager to find out what doctors I am seeing and what type of medications I am being prescribed.
Soon after I told him that I don't feel comfortable letting him know that , he introduce me to the owner of the restaurant and even the owner said to me " You know Marc, Is always good to see new applicants who want to work here , but is always easy for us to spot people who just don't want to work." I did not know how to react to his comment and so he just walked a way and told the General Manager to carry on. I was given a chance to look over the Menu so I could be quizzed which I don't see a problem with that. After the whole interview process, the General Manager asked me if I could start with in two days and I just simply decline his offer.
Two weeks later my girlfriend and I were in the area and decided to stop and try their food and some of the drinks; since I was told during my interview process that their mix drinks are the best in town. We order 2 Margaritas and some food. I got an enchiladas plate with white sauce and cheese and my girlfriend had chicken tacos. I have to say the only good thing that I could rate with great flavor was their red sauce and chips. I have never gone to a Mexican grill who offered enchiladas that have what it looked like to me Pepper Jack and Provolone cheese on top of the enchiladas. They were dried and the shredded chicken had very little taste. I had to keep asking the waiter for more salsa. My girlfriend food was not good either.
As s certified chef and food critic I would say this is the worse Mexican food I've ever tasted. Presentation of the food is good, ambience of the restaurant is good but ,the service, and above all the food was terrible. I will not be coming back to this restaurant and I do not recommend seeking employment...
Read moreFood is GREAT!!! Its consistent - I've gone there for years, since the early 1980s up until 2024. At some point they went through a change and the food went downhill and I didn't go there for a long time. But, for the last 5-6 years, it has been solidly, consistenly good. If you go there, find something you like to eat, and then return, you can count on it being the same good food. The staff is a little funky when it comes to busy hours - you might wait a while if the restaurant is busy, but, they are often short staffed as most restaurants are after the 2020 pandemic. When it comes to alcohol service, I've lived in Utah all of my 40+ years and have heard every interpretation of UT DABC laws bars and restaurants and just beer bars have from the DABC ( or whatever the current acronym is for the UT state liquor "board" ). You'll find that from restaurant to restaurant and bar to bar and liquor sesrving bar in SLC, each one has a different interpretation of alchohol laws, and I'm sure I'll get a response that they adhere to Utah liquor laws, but, each restaurant's bar's or liquor-serving bar's behavior is more strict or more loose. They have the right to run businesses as they see fit. It just depends on where you are. My point is, that you may find stricter service here on one night compared to another, but it's always pretty strict here. If you want EXCELLEN tex-mex, Utah mexican food, that's consistent, and not incredibly expensive, 100% go here. The servers get a bit overwhelmed sometimes, even though the restaruant isn't packed (my family and I can make an honest judgmetn here having worked as servers for many many years), but, they are always kind, they always get the food out, and it's always good, good food. 100%. I know this is a bit detailed, but I'm coming from a point of view for someone who's coming to SLC from from out of town. It's also a critique of how wacko Utah's liquor laws are (eg, it varys from bar to bar, restaurant to restaurant, etc.). 100% go here to eat. Give it a shot. It's close to the city if you're on the way from the ski resorts or Park City from the freeway. And if you're local and havent tried Tres Hombres, you're totally missing out. 100% go here. Eat and drink safely and support an SLC business that has been here for a...
Read moreMy husband and I are moving into the Millcreek area in the next month and decided to find a new (to us) place close by to try out. We ignored some of the reviews that said service could be slow or not the best and decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, we were treated to that exact situation during our visit. The most disappointing part was that the server was very kind and offered good suggestions as far as food and what not and in that respect, I cannot be upset with that. However, after we received our food, she stopped by one more time briefly to ask us how the food was and then she disappeared for the rest of the meal. Once we finished eating, we waited around 15 minutes for any sign of where she might be and didn’t see her again.
We flagged down a gentleman who appeared to be a on duty manager and mentioned we’d not seen our server in quite some time and would like to get our check. That’s when we were passed between 4 different people, none of them our server, to pay and get a box for our leftover food. At one point, we were told “sorry, she must have gotten tied up.”
Having been a server and floor/shift supervisor myself, I would have never used that excuse to explain why an employee just disappeared for over 20 minutes and never came back. Even if it was true, I would do everything I could to make it right (passing patrons between 4 different employees doesn’t help that) and ensure the patron left wanting to come back (and that they left a decent tip for my employee.)
Other than this unfortunate first experience, the wait for a Saturday evening was surprisingly non-existent as we were seated immediately. The food was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere as well. And for the bit that we were able to have our server with us, as was mentioned before, she was kind and helpful in our meal...
