We had an amazing time at Salt & Flour! Four of us came on a Saturday night 1 month after their opening. The place was packed! Very hard to get in. Reservations required well in advance.
The $15 valet service offered is absolutely clutch and a pleasant surprise, taking the pain out of the parking problem in downtown, and much cheaper than parking in a garage and walking a couple blocks.
ARRIVAL: The host stand that greets you just inside the doors is stunning with the red wall and lit up name. We were greeted by two smiley hosts who made us feel very welcomed. They explained it would be about 10 minutes before we could be seated at our reserved table, which is totally reasonable. Unfortunately, we had nowhere to stand or sit while we waited and kept shuffling out of the way of the staff trying to get through & new people coming in.
AMBIANCE: The decor and ambiance beyond the entrance was a bit of a letdown. It felt colder and less luxurious than the area near the door. The seating was cushy, but there were inexplicably 3 different types of chairs used throughout (4 if you count the benches). The paintings near our table were fun and adorable, and we were informed later by our server that they were curated specifically for the owner by a local well-known chef/artist friend. I'm glad we weren't seated in the bar area because the lighting over there was blinding, not to mention the AI art over the bar was creepy and jarring. The sound of a blow-torch and flames coming from the open kitchen created excitement and anticipation walking past. The tables were all way too packed together! We watched staff shuffling around each other and waiting for their turn to walk through the only path all night. The music was the perfect level and vibey.
SERVICE: Outstanding all around! Our server, KC, welcomed us with a big smile and immediately outlined the fantastic wine list and large food menu with tips and stand-out items. She was very patient, warm, and helped us pick out an assortment of items to fit our tastes. She was clearly slammed, weaving quickly between tables with drinks and plates. Even though it was really busy in there, we did not feel rushed. She took her time when checking in and joking around with us, which made us feel special. She was very attentive, and she and the other staff silently refilled our waters and changed out plates and silverware while we weren't paying attention. The manager who stopped by was funny and sassy.
FOOD: Overall, a great meal. We started with the meatballs, beet salad, and foccacia bread, which were all excellent and set the tone for the meal to come. The bronzino fish was insane- moist & delicious on collards and this spicy sauce that was addicting. The pork and peas dish was good, but unremarkable. You can tell the pasta was freshly made, which is appreciated. The wagyu pasta was flavorful. Our final dish was a recommended Asian fusion duck confit special that was not on the menu. Incredible! Our server's passion for this dish did not steer us wrong. It was absolute umami & comfort. A food hug. I was still thinking about it the next day. Because we are gluttonous, we also ordered dessert. The chocolate tiramisu was yummy, but the dessert wine that KC talked us into left us gobsmacked. She described it as a Willy Wonka everlasting liquid dessert and we were beyond curious. That's exactly what it was. MIND=BLOWN. It was a double exclamation point at the end of our meal!!
SUMMARY: •Cheap valet parking- yay! •Friendly, diverse & passionate staff •Handful of culinary & wine gems •Although the food and ambiance wasn't perfect across the board, the genuine & outstanding service made this an unforgettable experience!
We laughed, I cried (the restaurant is the owner's love letter to his hard-working single mom), we had to unbutton our pants, we can't wait...
Read moreI stumbled upon this new restaurant via an Instagram Reel and immediately made reservations for a double date with my husband, sister & BIL. We loved everything about this restaurant and rolled out of there beyond stuffed and ready to go back again for more.
As a new restaurant, our server was very open with us about his favorite dishes, things he felt that needed tweaking or what to order to up level one dish over another.
We started with drinks: My husband loved the Limoncello Martini (they make their own Limoncello and it was very good). I had the Por Mi Amante which was very good, not too sweet and some great heat from the Tabasco. The Smoked Whiskey Sour was delicious and I’m not a big whiskey sour fan.
Then we started with appetizers - the focaccia and burnt burrata and deviled crab - both were delicious. The restaurant gives the vibe of wanting you to experience the menu in a shared family dining experience, so they encourage you to order multiple things to share. We picked 4 entrees to split amongst the 4 of us and none of them disappointed. We opted to choose a couple of pasta dishes, one pizza and a sammie: Burrata y Prosciutto pizza Bordain’s Mortadella Grilled Cheese Berkshire Pork & Kale Pasta Bowl: Pappardelle + Bolognese sauce, put into the Parmesan Bowl 🤌🏼 (they make their own pasta fresh every morning) The only “criticism” we had was the Pasta Bowl didn’t have an option to include a protein to it. So, our waiter suggested ordering the meatballs from the appetizer menu, which we did and it was a perfect pairing. Also, the marinara sauce the meatballs come served in was a perfect pairing to dip the Grilled Cheese in - almost like grilled cheese and tomato soup. We made the suggestion that they add some of that marinara as a side to the sandwich. Oh, and the fries with the sandwich were also cooked perfectly and the seasoning was delicious.
We wrapped the meal with trying the Strawberry Shortcake Tiramisu. It was a nice, light, refreshing treat at the end of the meal. However, it was a challenge to share it because it came served inside of small, metal container (like a spring form pan for a cheesecake, but had a bottom to it, so we couldn’t take it out to just split 4 ways).
Overall, we loved this new addition to Italian restaurants in the Twin Cities and we have high hopes that it will do well, especially, as they plan to add brunch and open for lunch during the weekdays as they work out little kinks here and there. The only reason I gave 4 vs 5 stars for the food was because of the no protein option for the pasta bowl and having to pay an additional $18 for the meatball appetizer to add some protein to the pasta bowl. We will absolutely be back!
One more thing to add that we didn’t know going in, the new building complex they’re in, has it’s own parking garage that was half the price of parking in Ramp B. We parked in Ramp B because we couldn’t find on their website anything about parking. It was a less than 5 minute walk just across the street, but I’d have preferred to have parked on-site. Even Valet was only $15 vs the $20 we paid in the ramp. Note...
Read moreMy first visit to Salt & Flour was an absolutely amazing experience! I went on Mother's Day with one of my daughters & two nieces, and it was fun from beginning to end! We sat out on the patio, which is spacious with multiple umbrella covered tables. A BIG perk is having Happy Hour Sunday-Thursday. Pretty rare to find that on a Sunday. I ordered the house white that was a HH special and loved it. My nieces both ordered a sour beer and raved about it. My daughter ordered a spicy margarita, and it was the BEST any of us had ever had. We all sampled hers, and on the next round, we each got one. We are VERY picky about margi's, and these were FABULOUS! We got fries for an appetizer which were also great and gone within minutes. Between the 4 of us, we had the Rigatoni Pesto Cream Pasta, Ground Wagyu Bucatin, (as suggested by our amazing server Zach), a Margherita Pizza, and a custom vegan pizza. ALL of the dishes were delicious! No complaints from any of us. I really appreciated them accommodating my daughters request for a vegan option. My one suggestion would be to offer some vegan menu items. Veganism is extremely popular now, and having vegan options on their menu would really be great to see in the future. The decor of this restaurant is so beautiful! They have floor to ceiling windows that allow massive amounts of natural light that accentuates the very pretty decor throughout the restaurant. The general manager, Gabe, introduced himself to us and also checked in as we were there dining. Zach, our server, did an amazing job, especially considering it was very busy. We also got to meet Matt who was bartending at the time. All of the staff was very friendly and so helpful, which made the whole experience even better. We have all talked about how we cannot wait to go back! I highly recommend checking out Salt & Flour!
Went back on Saturday, June 14, 2025, for a bridal shower gathering for my daughter. We had a table of 10, and Rick was our server. Not only was he extremely professional and knowledgeable, he was also fun and attentive. The support staff did a great job of keeping our waters full, and clearing the table as needed. We spent over three hours at our table, and never once did he make us feel rushed to leave. The food recommendations were perfect, and every one of us had an amazing time. This is an excellent spot for an intimate dinner or to gather with family & friends. It is my new favorite restaurant and I can't...
