Thinking about joining this gym? Read below!
As someone who has been a female athlete of multiple sports for nearly my entire life, I can say I have never experienced a gym as welcoming and supportive as the Pursuit in Monroe.
The community here is friendly and honestly family-like. Which made it so much more enjoyable to start to see familiar faces whenever I came in. The people here truly are good folk. The management and staff truly care about the members here and the work they do and it shows. Jacob the manager(who knows literally everyone somehow) is also very good about making sure everyone, especially women, feel safe and doesn’t tolerate any sort of inappropriate behavior. I also love that there are trainers available and working in the gym and this is why:
I was hesitant to start training in here because of insecurities with my body and not knowing how to use the equipment. I spent the first 2 weeks only doing cardio because I didn’t know where to start. When one of the trainers (Chris) checked in on how I was doing I told him, he offered to walk me through the equipment and give me a basic workout example. This helped my confidence so much in the gym and attacking different exercises. I was later practicing RDLs and another trainer (Alexus) was walking by and she said she could help me and showed me the proper form! Not to mention when I told the manager (Jacob) I didn’t know what to do for upper body but that I wanted to be able to do a pull up, he showed me how to do assisted pull ups to build upper body strength. The trainers Becky and Charles also gave me exercises to do when I didn’t know where to start for upper body. All this to say that having them around is so helpful and they are very generous with their time!
Another trainer (Jalen) had asked what I was hitting that day(which everyone at the gym is always checking in on what eachother is working on).And he said he was surprised to hear what my goals were after seeing the workouts I was doing. And he -in a very in-depth, helpful noncondecening way- broke down how my current workouts were probably inefficient for the goals that I have even if I’m seeing minimal results. He’s one of the younger trainers but he is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to his profession and it was this conversation that actually prompted me to start personal training sessions so I could get a better foundation and build more confidence.
Since then I have been doing training sessions with Charles and have seen serious results and I’m feeling strong again! He listened to what I wanted and curated my plan to be one I’m excited to attack. He’s encouraging and pushes me to not cheat myself and is a very candid genuine person, definitely recommend!
All this to say, I have had an amazing experience with this gym, this staff, and this community. And my relationship with working out and attending a gym(especially as a women) has healed...
Read moreIn my opinion, they have horrible customer service. The main reason I joined was to take advantage of the Jacuzzi and massage chairs. About the time I joined, the Jacuzzi went out of commission and stayed that way in and out for about five months I think. It was difficult to use the massage chairs because I was either to late (they apparently are not open 24/7) or there was no staff present at the front desk. When I finally asked to cancel my membership and get a refund, I was met with basically rudeness, "We do not have any " adjustments" or early termination options."
In my next email I suggested that they could have extended my membership to cover the months that the hot tub was down, they could have offered to call and let me know when it was up and running again, or simply allow me to cancel my contract and be charged the monthly rate for the months that I tried to use the gym. Pursuit fitness customer service responded, "I really hope you can understand and look at things from a business perspective. We have signed contracts for a reason, they take all emotion and opinions out of the equation and give us black and white answers as they pertain to your membership. I can understand your frustration with the Jacuzzi being out of order. However this is a highly used gym and things break. We cannot control when they break and or how long it takes to get replacement parts. Your recommendation that we would give away free months to you on your membership because one item out of probably 500 plus items in our gym is out of order is not feasible. If we did this for everybody, every time a machine that they wanted to use was out of order, we would quickly go out of business. Things break, but we do our best to fix them as quickly as possible."
My response included a couple of questions about how long the jacuzzi had been out of order and if my contract covered their responsibility to keep equipment and working order. I also asked for the owner's name and a mailing address. Their customer service responded, "We are all about customer service, however, we cannot please everybody. In this case, you are clearly not pleased but there is nothing more we can do as we have attempted to reason with you and you simply only see things from your perspective. I will not continue to go back and forth with you only to go in circles, so to save us both the time and hassle this will be my last response. Also, we do not give out the owners information.". Signed off with "Have a nice day. Pursuit Fitness, Customer Service
It's almost laughable but seriously, no customer service. Although I find it quite flattering that my one membership keeps them in business.
I think they...
Read moreI dont leave negative reviews often, and this isnt a reflection on the gym itself, but on their billing. I havent seen any other reviews here of people thatve gone through this, but nevertheless this has been my experience and it has been very frustrating.
It has happened multiple times where they have charged me for a month of the membership dues, but for whatever reason it shows on their end that the payment bounced back and ive never gotten a dime back out of it while not being able to use the facility. They tell me its my bank, my bank tells me its them.
When ive gone through any type of financial situation as a single dad where i have also been forced to pay my dues a day late, they reassured me that as long as i communicate with them ahead of time that i wouldnt be charged a late fee. Low and behold, when billing comes around, my account would get charged putting me into a negative, while still not letting me use their gym and trying to still charge me the 20 dollar late fee. Then when i try to bring up what had been previously arranged to avoid this in the first place, im forced to communicate with them about billing via email where they could care less, and have actually argued with me. I understand that im the one paying late in the first place, but what frustrates me most is being assured they'll work with me and then do the opposite and on top of it still charge my bank account and not let me use the gym.
Ive since tried to cancel, but they wont since i apparently owe them money even though my bank says otherwise. Like I said, fortunately it looks like others havent gone through this and this review will get lost admit the good reviews, but im a man of my word and am still leaving this out of pure frustration. Im broke and out atleast 200 dollars and can't even cancel the membership until I pay them 100 dollars that I've already paid them. I know it seems petty but its tough as a single parent.
I'll probably end up having to just suck it up and pay them so i can just get out of this agreement, and it looks like im probably the only one thats had this happen. But either way, my experience with how they've falsely charged me has been ridiculous and have to vocalize it whether it actually makes a...
