On our road trip along the Pacific coast, we stopped for three days in Pacific Grove/Monterey. When I saw a Stingray, a Firebird, and a DeLorean right across the street, I couldn't get these beautiful cars out of my head. When I told my husband about it, we both drove there the next day and found ourselves in front of the Monterey Touring Vehicles-Classic Car garage.
I was so excited about the old Porsches, the Shelby , and all the other beautiful cars that I didn't even realize you could rent them. When my husband mentioned it in passing, I was sold. It had to be the Cobra or the Camaro SS. Since my husband isn't as spontaneous as I am, after talking to the friendly staff, I gave him another night to think about it. Unfortunately, the Shelby was out for us because we were both too tall for it. So we booked the '68 Camaro that same evening. The friendly staff explained the car to us, and we also took out insurance for both of us on the spot. We each took a quick lap around the garage, received two bottles of water, and off we went, with loud music, brilliant sunshine, and an extremely good mood, toward Pacific Crove/Ocean Blvd. and the 17 Mile Drive toward Big Sur.
We suddenly had "so many friends" along the way who kept waving to us and calling out, "Amazing or Nice Car!" Whenever we made a short stop, people kept commenting on the car, and people stood in front of and next to the car and took pictures. The car a absolute eye-catcher! And the sound...the sound is like the heartbeat of the Camaro. The driving experience was absolutely fantastic, problem-free and so easy to steer, a feeling of freedom that you unfortunately don't experience in cars these days. My husband was absolutely thrilled, and so it happened as it had to be: I was almost only a passenger :-). But I was happy for him, since the car is from 1968, just like my husband, and you don't get the opportunity to drive a car like that in Germany or Holland.
It's a shame that Monterey is about 9,000 km away from us, but we'll definitely be back. Thanks to the fantastic team at Monterey Touring Vehicles-Classic Car. Thank you for your passion and for sharing it with others. We hope that all your guests treat your beautiful cars with the same love and care that you do! All the best!...

Read moreWhat a treasure! We came across MTV by chance -- and came back several times now, about once every two months. My 9-yr-old son and I rented several different vehicles and never regretted a single one! The team is super-friendly and easy-going. Several times we went a bit over the time, called, and it was not problem to return the car much later than planned, they were super-cool about it. All cars so far were running really well and also were surprisingly easy to handle and very tame if you're not flooring it. The team is taking good care of them after each rental, and every time we notice some small improvements or fixes. We often took the cars to see some races at Laguna Seca, or just drove into the hills around Monterey and Watsonville. We are so grateful that MTV is sharing these cars with us and are making it so easy to rent and drive. I won't share my favorite cars here, so I will still be able to rent them when I want ;) Extra Tip 1: On Saturday mornings, go to parking lot of Chili's Grill on Canyon Del Rey Blvd for some historic car meet-up! Extra Tip 2: With these cars, you can get in anywhere - drive directly into the corral of Laguna Seca, the owner's parking lot at prestigious resorts, or...
