The Feral Market — Local services in Monterey

Sad day today. A little back story, all three of my daughters love this store, and have been frequent customers the last several years. One of the three spent every dime she made there for several months, which is fine, they seem to sell quality stuff, and unique items. I myself have spent hundreds of dollars multiple times with my family, that's on top of my children all going their frequently on their own. Well, today, the owner was a complete A hole to my my eldest daughter and her friends, even yelling at them for browsing in her store, and trying on a couple of jackets. Since all of my daughters have done this many times, and never had a single issue, I cannot understand why this lady (term used loosely) was such a different person today. I can say this, my daughter has a couple of friends who are not white, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was the problem. Regardless of the reason for her being disrespectful to a long time customer, with several family members who frequently spend money in her store, I can guarentee that my entire family ( pretty big since we've been in monterey since 1919) will never set foot in this store ever...

The manager or owner of this business yelled and bullied my teen daughter at this store. She came in with her friends to shop after school graduation. It was her and two friends. They tried on sunglasses and jackets and looked around as she had grad money to buy something. The women threaten the girls by yelling "should I call security" she also said "why aren't you in school" and "where are your parents". They are 15 and 16 and well behaved kids. The she went on to say "do you own a business and would you want your stuff messed with". If this owner was concerned with the girls trying on a jacket she could have stated, please don't try on the jacket nicely. My daughter was crying when she got home and is traumatized from this womens unprovoked verbal attack. I have shopped in this store before many and they have lost my business. As a long time local, I’ve been shopping at the store for years. It’s an amazing family owned business with the most wonderful service and the quirkiest, awesome selection of merchandise. My young adult/teenage kids and their friends have stopped in there and shopped many many times, the owners are always wonderful and engaging with them. Having been part of a family owned business, I know how hard it can be to run a business in this corporate world. In a society where we can make or break somebody with a good or bad review. I think people should have better communication in our community before going after a business owner. Support our local businesses, and understand that situations are not always as clearcut as you may think.
