I have been coming to J Mart even since it opened! It started off small, but now it is packed full! I find that it has a lot of Taiwanese food and not as much Japanese food as I thought (since it is called "J Mart"), but I still really love the selection they have. The meat and fish prices are not ridiculous, and the produce is always great quality. Though they are not the cheapest in town, their vegetables always taste so sweet. They always have such interesting fruits too! The ice cream section is so fun too. I like that they always stock up on new items, so I always want to try everything.
The staff are all so kind and respectful. They always say "hi" and "have a good day" and smile. Sometimes when I visit, the workers will immediately introduce what new products they have. One time, the cashier made a mistake of the price of pears, and my mother explained the different pears to her. The cashier was very kind, apologized, and corrected the price. No drama!
I like that they are sanitizing the store often during this time. Thank you to all the Spanish workers too! They work very hard, and they are just as kind as the regular staff. I noticed they previously worked at Assi, where I no longer shop due to their continuous downhill fall in quality. I would rather pay more at J-mart for good customer service! I have been introducing all my friends to J Mart and not to go to the other Asian...
Read moreI can't express how incredibly impressed I am with how clean, organized, and stocked this store is! I used to have to go to Chinatown Philly for most of my chinese goods because the other asian grocery nearby didn't carry many chinese products. I'm so happy that all my chinese favorites are at Jmart.
I must also commend the selection of their raw meats from the beef, chicken, and duck to the sashimi fish. The sashimi is very fresh (which it should be! But the other asian grocery's sashimi sometimes tastes old).
This place is also hot pot heaven. They had all of my favorite hot pot additions such as sausage links with corn, konjac noodle, and seaweed bows.
Their checkout counter is also very aesthetically pleasing.
Edit: I forgot to say the prices are cheaper for a lot of their products as compared to the other...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place five stars but the live fish and crab areas were not doing well. The Dungeness crab tank had a crab upside down, which looked dead, and the other fish tank had a large dead fish. It was also peculiar that the rest of the tanks were completely empty. In addition, the blue claw crabs were lethargic and piled on top of each other. I look for feisty, energetic crabs that are healthy, rather than near death.
Aside from all this, the rest of the store was great. I was particularly impressed with the raw produce section that had rare and exotic selections that were fresh and ripe. The store was also clean, neat, and organized. I think this place could easily be five stars if they addressed the live seafood area. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements and...
