I really enjoyed my time with Fred Astaire and learned a lot. However, I found their rules to be a little too restrictive and their business model too inflexible. My instructor was great, friendly, and fun but I felt we didn't really maximize or fully utilize the time of the 40 minutes lessons as best as we could. There was a lot of small talk and repetition in going over what I already knew and felt comfortable with -- going back to basics if you will. I felt this was somewhat unnecessary as I was taking weekly lessons. However, they were very patient with learning new, more difficult moves. I felt that they were overly strict in how one attends group lessons vs socials and when I tried to go back with my wife after being a customer for quite some time, they essentially told me that we'd be required to work with separate instructors (more $$$ for them) and therefore they were not interested in us having us come in.
This is a really great place with great people. I just think they need to relax their rules a little bit and be a little more welcoming of different scenarios. I understand that they are running a business (franchise) and that they have to set policies that would (hopefully) apply to all. But I also don't think my requests were unreasonable for someone who took lessons very regularly, always showed up with a smile and cheerful attitude, participated in many of their paid events and paid without any issues. I tried to go back and they essentially turned me away. While being part of this group is not cheap, it is fun and worthwhile despite its...
