Ashley's Corner — Local services in Mount Dora

Today I went in to buy a postcard. I only had a twenty dollar bill and Anneliese, the cashier said in a loud voice, "Who do think we are, your bank?" I saidI could give them a card and she pointed to a sign saying ten dollar minimum for credit cards. I then asked about debit cards, and she said it is the same. I asked her if that was legal. Then the owner approached me and said, "Of course it is legal. I should know. I am the owner." I replied that I didn't think so and Googled the law which clearly states merchants may not charge a surcharge on debit cards. I asked if she wanted to see the law and she replied, "No, leave my store and don't come back. She then proceeded to rant about how I hate small businesses and on and on.

I replied that if I owned a business I would want to be in compliance with the laws. She said that she would call her accountant and change the wording. And again said to never come in her store again. I will send someone in in a week to see if they are complying...

Went in the store and saw many things we wanted to buy. It was during Mt Dora arts festival for which we come every year, spend lots of money for we love to support local. Inside most people did not have masks on which was not required including staff but one of their rude employees with a mask loudly announced to the store that we needed masks on in store ( again many in there without them) and proceeded to get louder & ruder. My husband was so excited to go in there for he Googled info on store and we had a large list to shop for ourselves, friends & family gifts but the rudeness of that woman was beyond comprehension, acceptance, and was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. We set our multiple purchases down and exited the store. We come often to Mt Dora and LOVE to support local but we will never set foot in that store again!! We went there today and the store is very organized and the items are very nice but the lady that works there was more worried about gossiping about everybody else very loudly instead of having good customer service and assisting customers. We were very disappointed. I had a lady come up to me and asked me if I knew where the price was and one of the items and I told her I wasn’t very sure because I didn’t work there, but she can ask the lady at the counter and she’d be more than happy to help her, and she said that she would rather leave. We left and spent our money elsewhere. I expect good customer service and good quality.
