I walked into Two Cumberland Boutique expecting a charming shopping experience, but I left feeling completely excluded. While the store itself is clean, well-organized, and has that quintessential Charleston vibe, the sizing policy is nothing short of shameful. They intentionally do not carry anything above a size M (8), with all numbered sizes stopping below a 6. In a time when inclusivity should be the standard, they’ve chosen exclusivity—reinforcing outdated beauty standards and making women feel like they don’t belong.
To make matters worse, the employees and management seem to carry the same elitist attitude. The air of superiority is palpable, as if simply existing above a size 6 makes you unworthy of acknowledgment. If you’re looking for a boutique that embraces all women, this is not the place.
Charleston thrives on Southern hospitality, but Two Cumberland completely misses the mark. A store can be beautifully curated, but if it lacks kindness and inclusivity, what’s the point? Do better.
Edited to Respond to the Owner’s Reply: I appreciate the detailed response, but unfortunately, my experience in-store did not reflect the level of service or inclusivity you claim to offer. When I did ask for help and inquired whether larger sizes were available online, the associate seemed unsure and simply said she didn’t think so—offering no further assistance, no mention of special orders, and no effort to help me find an alternative. If your staff is truly trained to go above and beyond for customers, that was not my experience.
I understand the challenges of running a small business, but if certain sizes “don’t sell,” that speaks more to your store’s target demographic and marketing choices rather than an inherent lack of demand. Many boutiques have proven that inclusivity and profitability can go hand in hand—it’s simply a matter of valuing all customers equally.
You say you want everyone to have a good experience, yet my visit left me feeling unwelcome and dismissed. A boutique is more than its aesthetic—it’s the people who run it and the values they uphold. If you genuinely want to be an inclusive space, I hope you’ll consider how you can improve rather than...
Read moreEvery time i go to Two Cumberland i get the best service, my girlfriend loves their clothing, but better yet they have a small men’s section where i can not only find hilarious mugs etc but awesome skin care that you can only find at their store in chs. I’ve read previous reviews about the return policy being bad, but i’ve never in my life been to a boutique in charleston or outside of chs that actually did full returns, so i was grateful when i realized that they extended theirs to 14 days instead of most boutiques who only allow for 7 days (every other boutique in chs & my.p) or who don’t take returns at all. If something didn’t fit right they were quick to go out of their way to try and special order it or call their other stores to see if they had other sizes. They truly want you to be happy with your purchase and that makes all the difference! best customer service i’ve witnessed in...
Read moreI recently placed an order over the phone for an item I saw on IG. Alexis assisted me to find the item and get it shipped to my home. There were some hiccups with the computer but she was so sweet through the transaction and threw in a free pair of earrings with my purchase. This felt like professional and personable service which is so rare...
