We are Marriott loyalty members. This Town place Suite is modern with attractive rooms. We stayed Sun -Sun, 16-24 October 2022, expecting another positive Marriott experience. However:
I stayed at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott at 1350 Stuart Engles Blvd in Mount Pleasant, SC for 60 days while my apartment was being repaired after a fire, and I was receiving medical treatment as a disabled combat veteran. During my stay, I encountered a deeply distressing situation with a front desk clerk named Shanon, which left me not only embarrassed but emotionally traumatized. This experience has left me with nowhere to go, and tonight, I’ll be sleeping in my car with my dog because of her actions.
Shanon and I initially formed a friendship, and I helped her out on multiple occasions. I checked her car’s oil, took her out to lunch, and even spent time with her while she was on the clock, smoking and drinking in my car. While she flirted with me, I maintained professionalism. However, things started to take a turn when she began speaking derogatorily about her coworker Brandi and the General Manager, Graham, often creating drama and attempting to get Brandi fired. She even begged me to report what I had witnessed to Ashley, the front desk manager, but I refused because I didn’t want to be involved in her personal vendettas.
Last night, the situation escalated in an unbelievable way. As I was walking with a female friend toward the elevator, Shanon gave me a sharp look and called me back to the front desk. She began questioning me about my account, even though Graham and my VA liaison had already cleared it. She had previously charged my account in retaliation, and when I asked why, she had no real explanation except, "I’m just doing my job." This late-night encounter was not the first time she acted this way, and I couldn't shake the feeling that she was targeting me due to personal issues.
When I told her I felt targeted and asked if she was doing this with every guest, she became visibly upset and started yelling at me. I calmly picked up a complaint card to jot down her information, and when she saw this, she threatened to have me removed from the hotel. When I told her I would be adding this to my complaint, she coldly responded, "Watch this."
Within minutes, she called the police. The officers who arrived were incredibly understanding and tried their best to help me, but they too were confused. Shanon had made up multiple lies to get me kicked out, and the police told me themselves that her story didn’t add up at all. I was in shock when they informed me that I had to leave, despite my apartment burning down, my ongoing medical treatments, and the fact that I had my service dog with me. Shanon’s actions felt like a calculated retaliation—completely unprovoked and fueled by jealousy or personal issues. The police could clearly see that the situation didn’t make sense, and their body camera footage will verify how her story was full of inconsistencies.
I have nowhere to go tonight, and the thought of sleeping in my car with my dog is devastating. I’ve always treated everyone at this hotel with respect and kindness, making friends with many of the staff members. Shanon's behavior was hurtful and unjustified. I'm not only embarrassed by what happened but also deeply traumatized by the way I was treated.
I’ve already reached out to Marriott corporate and plan to contact IMIC Hotels to fully report this incident. No guest should ever be treated this way, especially in vulnerable circumstances like mine. I sincerely hope the management takes serious action to prevent this from happening to...
Read moreNever staying here again. Room was clean, front desk check in process was terrible. I’ve never had an issue checking in early to any other Marriott hotels except for this one. I called 5 days ahead of our reservation to ask to check in earlier than 4pm due to having to be at a wedding at 5pm. The man I spoke to told me I could check in at 2pm at the earliest which sounded great and he said he would make a note on my reservation for my early check in time. The morning of our reservation I also checked in on the Marriott Bonvoy App and it said I could check in at 2:15pm which was fine also. We arrived at 2pm and was told that no rooms were ready and to come back at 4pm. I explained how I already called ahead of time days earlier and checked in using the app as well that morning and I had to get ready for a wedding and could not wait until 4 to be checked in. She said “well a room might be ready by 2:30 you can wait in the lobby.” At 2:15pm another couple comes in and checks in with no issues so I asked how they had a room but I didn’t. She said they had checked in using the mobile app and I told her again that I did too and it said I could arrive at 2:15pm. The lady at the front desk claimed she was the manager and I couldn’t speak to anyone else above her. She wasn’t wearing a name tag. We ended up having to wait until 2:45pm to be checked in. So then we had to hurry up and rush to get ready for the wedding instead of being able to somewhat relax and not have to rush after a 5 hour car drive. Other guests were also coming in after us stating they had called ahead and checked in on the mobile app but they were also told they couldn’t check in until 4pm because “early check in is not guaranteed”. I’m a platinum elite member and I’ve never had this issue before nor have I ever had to deal with such a rude and careless staff member who just kept repeating “Well I didn’t tell you that when you called.” Definitely do not recommend this hotel especially if you need to check in before 4pm. Also, to make it even worse I had a throbbing headache at 3am and went down to the lobby where they were out of stock of bottled water and all headache medicine in the market area and asked the guy at the front desk if they had anything in a stock room and he didn’t get up to look and just told me “well the Walmart...
