Artistic Kitchen Cabinets & Design — Local services in Mountain View

I recently collaborated with Kristin McRae on my kitchen cabinet design.

I am probably one of the most difficult clients because my requirements are not typical: Schedule: I wanted my cabinets delivered in 3 months, right before Thanksgiving. Precision: The cabinet design should be error-free to save time during install. They must fit into existing plumbing and electrical. Style: I need a designer who can understand my aesthetics and overall vision for the design. You can see from the pictures that my cabinets are not typical ones that are trending on Pinterest. I want the design to be artistically balanced, personalized to my taste and decor, timeless, and have vintage vibes. Cost: I need a designer who can understand trade-offs between cost and functionality. I know my kitchen and how to use it. I don't need fancy features. For example, I made a conscious decision NOT to include 2 Lazy Susans that not only impacted the aesthetic of the overall design but also increased cost and appeared to be useless for my application (my kitchen is big. I don't need optimize every little space.). Instead I added 6 big drawers as focal points. They provide plenty of useful space. Practicality: I need a designer who understands what it takes to keep a kitchen clean and functional. She should be able to communicate and advise with logical reasoning. Flexible: I like to explore design options until I am satisfied with the final version. I need to understand pros/cons and visualize design choices until I am happy with the results. I don't like to be rushed.

Kristin turned out to be THE dream designer, who met all my requirements. I lost counts of how many times we restarted from scratch. Her flexibility, patience, and experience allowed me to come up with a design that is not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing.

Just to show how patient and flexible she was: when I presented a new vent hood spec at the last minute, she changed her design to accommodate it because she understood I had been searching for an ideal hood throughout the design phase.

She also spent an extra week validating the entire design to ensure everything is perfect. Her attention to details is even more than mine so I trusted her completely.

After care: Kristin not only ordered VIP delivery service (making the experience stress-free for me: I didn't have to account for all the boxes delivered), she provided a diagram mapping cabinet ids to her design (making the installation easy), she made herself available for questions to my installers, and when there were damages during installation, she facilitated immediate reorder of the cabinet doors replacement at cost.

Although there are many kitchen designers, the one that can be trusted with your dream is not easy to find. My advice is to find a designing company with not just good designers but also reputable cabinet manufacturers. Remember, everything in the kitchen can be updated with new materials, except the cabinets. Our old one lasted 60 years: it was made with solid maple. I expect mine to last another generation.

After shopping around for kitchen cabinets, two places in SJ and one other in Mountain View, not satisfied, we stopped by Artistic Kitchen at El Camino and Grant. It was our sheer luck Julie Binik happened to greet us. Armed with wealth of information, expertise, clear diction, warmth and no hesitation to answer questions, we right away knew we had finally met the right person and have arrived at the right place. Made an appointment with Julie, discussed our vision, specific needs, idea of a haulistic kitche, and the budget. Within a few days we were on our way to finalize the most mindfully, and tactically designed, practical kitchen by Julie Binik. All other AK employees we interacted after were equally responsible and pleasant. Cabinet order was tracked and AK kept us informed and was delivered on time. Then came the install. Tricky? Not this one. Even the installer was pleasantly surprised how precise the design vs. the cabinets and appliances delivered. The installer infact said it was one of the most enjoyable jobs he had done. There was an instance, the installer made an error scribing a panel. Julie responded right away and expedited the process to get that panel delivered. We also had Julie order handles for the kitchen and yet again it was a pleasure. She personally quality checked each and every handle, and one that didn't meet her higher standards was re-ordered right away. I am one of those skeptical, hands-on, picky clients when it comes to any project concerning my house. We had a major home remodel project underway in 2021. I was taking references and Julie Binik from Artistic Kitchens was referred to us by our project manager.

I started the process of vetting designers and began talking to them. During my first, hour-long meeting with Julie, I noticed how professional and courteous she was. Julie certainly knows her craft and is updated on the latest design trends. When it came to the drawings and discussions, she patiently listened to all my ideas and had wonderful suggestions to add to the aesthetic. Julie made multiple visits to my property to ensure she was giving me the right suggestions (based on the natural light, floor color, backsplash type) on everything, including – the position of the island, countertop heights, different cabinet combinations, etc., and sometimes that meant additional work for her.

Thanks to Julie, today I have my dream kitchen. It is functional, stunning, and looks like a page right out of one of those fancy home magazines. Because of this experience, I engaged Julie to design my pantry, mud room, and master bath vanity. I couldn’t be a more happier client!
