My mother went to this hospital having pneumonia. She has severe COPD as well after being admitted for pneumonia which I was thankful for them admitting her 4 days of them treating her they scheduled her to go home on a Friday morning. I was planning on picking her up that Friday morning I called her at 9:00 a.m. everything was still set for me to pick her up at 9:30 that morning I arrived at the hospital and her doctor named Dr White come in the room and said that her pneumonia has progressed and she would not make it through the night had me call family from South Carolina Virginia Tennessee and North Carolina to all come in town expecting that she was not going to make it. Very thankful for Dr White asking a pulmonary ologist and a kidney specialist to look into the matter also. I get a report from the pulmonary ologist saying things are not looking good but with some medicine and time and patience maybe things would get better. The kidney doctor said the kidneys are stable but we need to make sure we keep an eye on them. So that's three different reports I've gotten the three different opinions all saying different things. Dr White comes in on Monday says your kidneys are shutting down your lungs are severely damaged and they will not make it and you have fluid build up around your heart and I forgot to mention she had an heart echo done and the heart specialist said her fine art was fine. And Dr White said that your heart was covered with fluid and was not good. So now we're working on Monday after setting for 3 Days waiting for my mother to pass away family traveling from hundreds of miles to visit now we are trying to transfer her to Vanderbilt University to get a second opinion and a higher level of care. So upon requesting this transfer to get a second opinion and maybe a set of doctors that would probably set down and I'll discuss what's going on with the person's medical situation and be able to tell one story rather than getting four different results from four different doctors. I thought it would be a great idea to have a second opinion so I requested for the transfer the nurse cup insisting that it would be refused I asked to speak to a social worker over the hospital I was told there was not one available to speak to me I requested for the charge nurse the charge nurse agreed with me stating that we should be entitled to be transferred to Vanderbilt University and get a second opinion so now it is Wednesday. I have not saw housekeeping in three days. So I mentioned that they need to clean the room due to the fact that my mother has infection in her body already and a nasty room growing bacteria putting a citation in there is not healthy. So after mentioning to the nurse that they needed to get housekeeping in the nurse got aggravated and went and put a transfer for my mother to be moved off of his floor down to a lower level of care stating she was getting better. Then I have another doctor which is the fifth one now stating she still has pneumonia she's getting better but now she has MRSA also in her lungs. And that don't really sound like it's getting much better to me it sounds like there's another complication along the situation. Now I'm going to post pictures of the trash that I was complaining about and still yet not being able to get transferred out for a second opinion. Now that leaves me to believe this hospital cares nothing about patience care they're only there to make a dollar off of whatever they can and that's all they're here for and they don't even care enough to hire the proper amount of staff to make it all work out. Two bags of trash at the front door the other trash can does not even have a bag and it half full of trash needle caps in the floor and I can go on and on but the point is I don't believe they're giving my mother the best care...
Read moreI did not have a particularly good experience with one of the staff nurses in cardiology. Her name is Nicole, she has glasses and she worked the overnight shift on the 7th floor. I’m writing bc I do not wish other patients to experience what I’ve experienced with her.
Nicole wanted to remove my IV bc she mentioned that since she saw me drink water I didn’t need it. She proceeded to remove my iv. I felt uncomfortable at the time bc I knew I hadn’t really had much water, but my family was in the room and I didn’t want to put up much of a fuss.
After some time I requested that I have my iv put back on and she did. But after a few trips to the restroom (I had to call to request help each time), she stated she was just going to call to request to cancel the order for my IV bc I seemed to be off it more than on it. She said every time I go to the restroom the iv is off. She also gave the reasoning that she had to reset the iv machine a few times for me and that I was drinking water so I didn’t need it.
I told her I felt uncomfortable removing it bc I knew I only had a few sips of water and I still felt dehydrated. I knew that my iv was ordered for a reason, and it was only off a very short time when I went to the restroom temporarily. Nicole said “the iv is meant to run and you should be taking it with you to the bathroom.” So I said sure I don’t mind taking it with me if I have to, I just wasn’t at first bc the first nurse said it was okay to take me off when I had to go. I made it clear to Nicole that I was okay with taking it with me moving forward.
When I requested that my iv please stay bc I wanted to ensure I was getting what I needed, she stated (paraphrase) that she doesn’t want to be a jerk, but the most important thing is the monitor that checks my vitals. she said that patients pee more when they are on an iv, and when I’m unhooked from the monitor to go to the restroom they aren’t able to monitor me. Basically she implied that going to the restroom was a problem, and literally stated to me that she was “frustrated” with struggling to be able to monitor me properly. She also mentioned her frustration that I was off the monitor when I wanted to quickly wash up after being there for hours with no bath.
Honestly, this is completely unacceptable behavior from a nurse. I felt like she was making me feel uncomfortable for just doing basic things like using the restroom and washing up, and making up irrelevant excuses for taking my iv away. I felt she didn’t want to do her job to assist me and made me feel bad for functions that inherently come with caring for patients.
Honestly she was very odd, bc she mentioned again that I was off the iv when I go to the bathroom to support her statement that I was off it more than on it, even though I already told her I would bring the iv with me moving forward during my admission.
I had to remind her that I was actually off the iv the longest when Nicole became my new nurse and decided I didn’t need it and took it away w/out any authorization or order bc she saw me drink a sip of water. So in reality I was off of it more than on it mainly bc of Nicole. She acknowledged this, but still felt “frustrated” with honoring my request.
Simply put, the answer is not to take away an ordered iv to not deal with her frustration of unhooking me - it’s to assist me and work with the patient so their OVERALL care is addressed. She ended up letting me keep my iv, but it was stressful dealing with this situation. Again, I hope someone in authority addresses this with her bc I do not want other patients to have this same...
Read moreMy grandson was born 6days ago and when I say I will never let any of my children deliver there again is a understatement. First off my son and his girlfriend are 18yr old. There kids having kids and with that being said the staff were absolutely rude inconsiderate and coming from a family of medicine they were neglecting. My grandsons head was cut with a scalpel and when we asked for ointment and gauze the response from the nurse was you can buy it over the counter. Now if this was something they did it would be one thing but no yall cut him yall provide the needed supplies to keep it clean and covered. Then they said oh you will be discharged tomorrow I was present for all of this by they way. I told the nurse not until wic came to see her. The nurses response was no you call and make a appointment. Now mind you my dad ran a entire hca hospital in nashville for years my mother has worked in several fields and is a traveling np no were in the mid state is that true. A person from wic gets the mother set up to go home with formula and that didn't happen. So we scheduled a appointment and cant be seen till the 20. That is not ok. She was sent home with 1 can of milk and 8 pre made bottles and they were totally different milks. So now what happens when the baby starts spitting up because theses kids switched his milk and not being educated and told switching doesn't sit well on newborns stomach. Me being me I made many calls and a church donated some milk for my grandson and im so ever thankful. But the nurses and staff pushing theses kids out sending my 2day old grandson home with diaper rash his back completely broke out a cut on his head and not enough milk to last until her wic appointment shame on yall. No one and I mean no one that has BLACK KIDS HAVING BLACK BABIES should deliver at this hospital. You all pushed theses kids out refused to allow the baby in there room over night which no the mother was not alone sent them home uneducated about formula and just all in all nuthing. Im so upset cutting him and not saying anything till almost 24hrs later sending them home with different formulas like it's trail and error NO! SHAME ON YALL YOU NEED TO DO BETTER BUT NOT EVER WITH MY GRANDBABIES THEY WILL GO BACK...
