Tobin's has been well regarded in my family for a long time, but I think times have changed and recently have been disappointed multiple times.
My wife went in to get a new ring size and pricing on adding a third band to her wedding ring as well as a resize. She got a written quote and went on her way.
I came back a couple months later with the ring to get the work done to surprise her. Not sure why, but the price went up a few hundred dollars from what my wife was told prior. Not a huge deal, its been a couple months, and they said they would be able to have it done in time for our anniversary. So that was great. I dropped off the ring and waited.
Weeks later, I was told the ring was ready for pickup, so I had my dad pick up the ring since I live over an hour away. My dad called me after picking it up and let me know there were two rings...they were never soldered together. I clearly communicated I wanted to add a third band to my wife's ring, so I have no idea why this was not done. After talking to them on the phone, they said No Worries, we can have it done in 2-3 weeks. Now, we are about a week away from our anniversary. So this would not work. I was extremely disappointed we had this all set up to be completed in time for our anniversary and a 2-3 week extended wait time for something that should have been done at this point was unacceptable. To their credit, after I expressed my disappointment, they said Ok, we'll get it done by Friday (a couple days later). Which would be enough time before the anniversary. So I said Ok, great.
Fast forward to after the anniversary and after giving the final ring to my wife. My wife and I look at the ring closer. There are huge gaps between the ring bands (See pictures). To the point where it will probably fall off if this isn't fixed. I have no idea how this was considered acceptable work by a goldsmith. So, we took another trip down to New Berlin to drop off the ring to get it fixed. Again.
Fast forward to getting the ring back. My wife looks closer at it again. The diamond is slanted to one side and not centered. Back to New Berlin again…
Any of these mistakes alone are honestly enough for us to stop recommending them. All three mistakes are enough for me to never go there again. Employees and owner are all very nice. But they need to start paying closer attention to the work they...
Read moreI know this is a bit long but details are important when you’ve been taken advantage of.
I took my gold ring with diamonds and the marquise cut black jade stone (intact) that had come out of the setting, to Tobin’s Jewelers to be reset. A few days later I was told they could not use the jade stone, and could insert a black onyx stone in its place. I approved the use of onyx, trusting what he told me. When I picked up the ring and asked for the jade stone back as it is valuable, I was told they threw it away. I filed a police report and their story changed, saying the stone was crushed (it wasn’t) and could not be used, so they threw it away. Why would anyone take a crushed stone in to be reset in a ring? Now they say the jade was too worn and that they gave it back to me (they didn’t).
After that experience I questioned the repair I had taken to Tobins 11 months ago. I had a family heirloom, my mother’s antique gold baby ring, missing the small ruby that was lost many years ago. I paid $472 (I have the receipt) to have a new ruby put in the baby ring and two prongs repaired. This was a gift for my great granddaughter, who shares the same birth month as her great great grandmother, born in July 2021. I took the ring to an independent gemologist for appraisal and my fear was confirmed, it is a fake ruby.
It’s embarrassing to admit I was scammed but if it helps someone avoid a similar fate then it’s worth sharing my story. I have yet to hear from Tobin’s to resolve the concerns.

Read moreWorking with Tobin Jewelers has been an A+ experience. From the first day I walked in they have gone above and beyond to help get every detail right. My fiancé is in love with the ring, it's so beautiful. She especially loves the European shank design of the bottom of the band (which prevents it from turning) and the special signature Tobin diamond "kiss" on the band. I went back to order her wedding band and pick out my ring and I was delighted to be treated with the same level of excitement from the staff as I received the first day I walked into Tobin Jewlers. You can tell the staff cares deeply about the jewelry and take pride in creating a wonderful customer experience. If you're looking to get engaged I can't say enough good things. Don't go to the big chain jewelry stores. Support local, you...
