This place looked like it might have cool stuff, but I walked in today and immediately heard an employee say something so GROSSLY RACIST that I turned around and walked out.
I am on vacation in New Hope and ducked in here. Almost immediately I heard a female employee who identified herself as Stacia (pronounced stay-sha) talking to several other young women. One of them was saying she was from detroit, and Stacia said "Well, I can relate, because I went to a totally ghetto school in Philadelphia where like only 11% of the students were white."
I don't know what the context was, but I suspect even Stacia doesn't comprehend what a racist thing this is to say. To clarify Stacia, should you be reading this, what you actually just said is "Black people are ghetto"; because you equated going to mostly non-white school with being ghetto.
As soon as I heard this I was so aghast I turned around and walked straight out, and I will never go back. Shame on Stacia and shame on this...
Read moreI’ve been here before and haven’t had issues until today’s visit. Normally it’s a fun place to look around. Most items are overpriced and not in good shape, but you can find some really neat stuff and funny gag gifts if you really spend some time there. It’s a neat concept for a shop. Usually the employees are really cool, but today there were two girls working who were acting like kids. One of them was making comments about me viewing a few different items and taking to a friend about which one I liked. The employee made comments about my taste in the items and made nasty comments about my personal appearance to another worker there. I heard her, made direct eye contact, and she laughed in my face and continued taking badly. Definitely done coming here. It’s been cool in the past, and I love supporting places like that, but cannot give me money to a store...
Read moreI Stopped into this store this evening and had a wonderful conversation with the owner/manager and her amazing employee. The conversation was fun, sometimes loud, and joyful and thoughtful. I have been coming New Hope for 15 years now and a lot has changed in the town, some good, some not so good. A highlight of all the times I go down there, is this store. It always changes, yet stays true to its core. From the mannequin garden that is always in a state of photographic exhaustion, to being on the corner of the main street coming off the bridge, and the thought provoking and fun window displays, its the greeting that welcomes you to New Hope. You know you have arrived. There is no better greeting. Keep putting smiles on peoples faces, and not be apologetic about doing so....
