Long time shopper at Rouses and have watched the deterioration and disorganization of this place for quite some time.
Aisles not clearly marked (above and below) so, customers are constantly getting in the wrong lines or getting skipped over. Long wait times once you do get in line, because they normally do not have enough people working the registers. There are some particularly rude staff members there as well: the older white woman, slim with glasses and long hair, the shorter, older black lady with glasses and the tall young black man with curly hair who wears it through a baseball cap and also wears glasses. At this location items seem to be in the weirdest places. Those staff members that I described, openly in front of customers, talk about customers being stupid and or not knowing which aisle to get into or that they’re ready for a vacation, which is quite passive aggressive to do especially in front of customers whom are spending their money during a time of high inflation, etc.
The security guards that work the front door are the nicest folks there and the Lady that works in the back in the deli as well.
Rouses brings in far too much money for this sort of disorganization. And because it is such a small location compared to its other shops, they need to be the most diligent about organization. After the way I’ve watched the staff treat customers, I’m done shopping there. I was already conflicted about shopping there due to the fact that their owner participated in January 6 events. Google it if you don’t know what I’m...

Órale, tamales a todas madre, aqui. Habla con el compa que está en la esquina con un tall boy. $ 5.
Just outside is The Tamale Guy providing a vital public service for all the partiers craving something good to eat after a hard session. Tamale Guy is usually posted on the intersection of Royal & St. Peters but sometimes closer to Orleans Street. Can't miss him as he's got a permanent tall boy in hand.
$5 for a hot tamale. Pork or chicken, both excellente. Tamale Guy out there at all hours, late into the night.
Pro-tip: if you are going to eat on the spot, then recommend getting a plastic spoon or fork from inside Rouses to make it easier to eat. If you plan to eat somewhere else, you'll want an extra paper bag as the tamales are served hot enough to be uncomfortable when holding in your hand.
It's hit or miss if there is a good street performer playing but if you're lucky, Brian Wingard (opposite side of the picture from Tamale Guy) or someone of similar caliber is out there playing. If so, you're set: grab a tall boy from Rouses, a tamale (don't forget a fork) and break some change so you can tip Brian. You're evening is set and you can...
Read moreI have lived and worked in the French Quarter since 2010, and have made groceries almost exclusively here all this time. I've always had a great experience, have spent 10s of thousands of dollars over the years, and most of the older employees know me on a first name basis. This evening I went in to grab a few small items and while the store was not very crowded, there were 3 parties ahead of me and the line was moving very slowly. I patiently waited my turn, only to start putting my items on the counter and be told by a very rude cashier with a sharp attitude that she was on break. I replied that I'd been waiting, only to be told that "that had nothing to do with her." She proceeded to go over to the cashier at the very end of the registers, obnoxiously and loudly complain about me saying that I had been waiting, then come back to her register and resume to check people out. Much of the younger staff was quite visibly stoned and acting like they were at a house party. I have never been treated poorly in any way by the staff at Rouse's before. I feel completely disrespected and will shop elsewhere even though it's much less convenient. Avoid the Royal Street location if at all...
