Aktas Barbershop — Local services in New York

I came into Aktas' barbershop for the first time a few weeks ago because my previous barber had moved to another location. It is always scary to find a new barber because you're not sure if you will get the same haircut as you did before.

I did not get the same haircut as before...in fact, I think what Aktas did was EVEN BETTER!

Upon entering, Aktas was in the middle of cleaning up the station and he has a sign that said that he was vaccinated (which I think was a nice touch).

I explained to him that I usually get a low skin fade with a comb-over trim. I showed him a few examples of selfies I took on my phone. However, while he was cutting my hair, we got to talking and I expressed that my hair always grows faster in some parts than others and I'm often at a weird 1-week stage where I don't know if I needed a new haircut or wait for my other hairs to catch up (not sure if I this even makes sense...but Aktas new what I meant)

He proceeded to make a few suggestions to thin out my hair a bit to make styling easier as well as suggested different lengths to cut my hair so that I won't have that problem.

The resulting haircut was great and after a week, I can tell that I won't have any concerns of inconsistent growth.

He also washes your hair (extra but worth it) so if you're getting a mid afternoon haircut, you can easily get back to work without having to go home to wash it...

I used to go to a barbershop on E 44th Street to have Anes shave my head and touch up my beard - and was sad to see the barbershop closed when I started coming back into the office in early 2021. Then I bumped into Anes on the subway one morning and he told me he has his own place now (opened July 2021) - I've been back twice in one month already!

I can only speak to my buzz cuts/shaves but Anes is great! He has a quiet & friendly demeanor and will make sure you look your best when you walk out! He never rushes even for a buzz cut and always treats your head as he would his own. After the cut, he gets out the razor and makes sure my beard is all cleaned up at the edges. The hot towel treatment after the buzz cut is a nice plus for us "follicle-ly" challenged individuals. For those concerned about straight razors - he's a master!

Just in the city for eZoo and had some time to kill. Saw a barbershop, realized I needed a haircut.

I really don't have the words to verbalize how pleased I am with this random chance decision.

Best haircut of my life, bar none, executely quickly with nonchalant masterful precision. I didn't even know what to ask for (I'm an autistic guy and have shaved my head or wore a hat for at least a decade now) so my attempt to express what I was looking for was barebones guidance at best.

"I trust your judgement", I said. Trust well placed, as it turned out.
