The Folly double-booked their private space and forced my friend & our party to leave the establishment.
My friend requested to rent out The Folly's private space on Saturday, February 8, from 5pm-9pm. The employee she corresponded with to book said space's name is Aron. Aron confirmed the space for my friends' preferred time, with no questions/concerns. He did not quote a price for the space and stated that my friend only had to pay $300 for the food & drink package she requested.
On Friday, February 7, around 7pm, less than 24 hours before her start time, Aron called my friend to inform her that he "waived the price of the space for her as a courtesy," and that another party, who prepaid $1.5K, was booked for the same space at 7pm. He also stated that despite this other party, my friend would still be able to "share the space," insinuating that the aforementioned party was small. In his correspondence with my friend, Aron never mentioned that the space cost $1.5K to rent out until less than 24 hours leading up to her party. He also never mentioned that The Folly was double-booked on Feb 8. However, Aron gave the impression that she would at least be able to share the space, and so my friend continued on to prepare for her party.
When my friend and I arrived at The Folly at 5pm to set up her decorations, a female employee approached us and informed us that we would actually have to leave the private space entirely at 7pm. When my friend explained that she booked the space from 5-9pm through Aron (who conveniently was not at work that day) and showed proof of confirmation, the employee was empathetic to our plight, but firmly stated that we would still need to leave at 7pm due to the next party having prepaid the deposit, the same deposit that was not mentioned to my friend until the night prior. I can certainly understand the business wanting to prioritize a party that's paying more, but seeing how Aron did not communicate a deposit nor the double-booking to my friend until the very last minute, that is not our problem but The Folly's problem.
My friend had decorations, a F&D package, and games prepared for her party. The majority of her guests did not arrive until 6pm, meaning there would only be 1 hour before we were to leave. Realizing that this double-booking was the fault of the The Folly, and not her own, she decided to stay until 8pm. When we began to pack up to leave, the other party arrived (a total of 75 guests,) and there was no space for us to get our things and exit. Tensions were high as the next party did not understand why we were occupying their rented space. Several of our guests tried to explain to guests of the other party, but the scene was so chaotic that no one was listening.
The Folly did not attempt to deescalate the situation (that they brought on themselves through their greed) either, and several arguments broke out. Even worse, a male barback shouted from the upstairs area that "We told them they needed to leave at 7pm and they didn't listen" to exacerbate the situation. I can empathize with his frustration at the situation, but his comment was unnecessary, pointed, and uninformed. And as a predominantly Black party trying to explain the situation to an all-White party who wouldn't move out of our way so that we could vacate, quite frankly, it was prejudiced. It was as if he was saying, "We do not want these people in our establishment," and I personally no longer felt safe.
The Folly knows they were at fault for deciding not only to omit the rental price but to omit another party's booking overlapping ours. And yet they put the onus on our party to leave. They have an upstairs area they could have offered us if they wanted to be fair, but they chose not to. They treated our business as "less than," and it put a huge damper on what otherwise would have been a successful party for my friend.
I do not recommend doing business with The Folly. They think they can double-book for profit and get away with it, and...
Read moreTucked away with coastal charm and laid-back vibes, The Folly is the kind of place that turns a casual meal into a mini getaway. From the second you step in, you’re hit with that breezy beach-town energy—easygoing, vibrant, and totally unpretentious. But don’t let the chill atmosphere fool you—this spot knows how to bring serious flavor.
Let’s start with the Painkiller—a tropical cocktail that lives up to its name. Made with a smooth blend of rum, pineapple, orange, coconut cream, and just the right touch of nutmeg, it’s the kind of drink that makes you forget your to-do list and contemplate moving somewhere warmer. It’s sweet, strong, and dangerously easy to sip. If paradise had a signature cocktail, this would be it.
And then there’s the burger—juicy, bold, and built for indulgence. It’s stacked high with all the classics, but what sets it apart is the attention to detail: perfectly toasted bun, crisp lettuce, melty cheese, and a patty that’s cooked to juicy perfection. It’s the kind of burger that silences the table because everyone’s too busy enjoying every bite.
The Folly strikes the perfect balance between comfort food and coastal flair. Whether you’re just stopping by for a drink or settling in for a full meal, it’s got that unforgettable flavor-meets-feel-good combo that keeps you coming back. If you’re looking for a spot that delivers both vibes and...
Read moreMy party waited for menus / a server for almost 20 minutes before finally being approached by a waitress who proceeded to tell us that the area we were sitting in was reserved (despite it not being marked / roped off). We wound up being sent outside, where we finally received menus. The weather was nice and the waitress seemed apologetic, so we didn’t mind much. Having just sat down, we asked the waitress for waters & for a moment to look over our options. Almost immediately after she went back inside the restaurant we were approached by a man (who we assumed was the manager) who urged us to order. His demeanor suggested that he assumed we were not paying customers despite our clear expression of our intent to order food. We ordered and then were made to give him a card to “hold.” We got our food, which was actually very good, but were barely checked on. I understand that they were busy, but the entire interaction rubbed us the wrong way. We wound up having to go back into the restaurant ourselves to retrieve our card. Again, the food was very good, and the ambiance was great, but our experience was disappointing due to...
