I moved my 90 year old uncle into Atria in early 2019 and he lived there for over a year. He had been living alone, had fallen and broke his hip so I thought living in a place like Atria would provide a level of safety for him. Plus he would get three meals a day. He was the first person to breakfast every morning around 7:30. His aide would meet him at the dining room around 9:30 to escort him back to his apt. On March 6, 2020 my uncle did not show up for breakfast and no one went to check on him. One of the services I requested. When his aide showed up at 9:30am the staff at the dining room urged him to get upstairs since John had not come down that morning. Why no one went to his apt is beyond me and I never got a straight answer. The aid rushed to the apt (no small feat since the elevators are always backed up) and found John on the floor with a head wound. He immediately called 911. Then he called Atria management and they told him to cancel the 911 call!! The aide was very shook up about being told this but 911 calls cannot be cancelled. My uncle was taken to the hospital and died the following Monday. I should have sued Atria for negligence and wrongful death. Imagine my surprise when I get a certified letter yesterday to the Estate looking for $3500. John’s rent was over $9000 per month and I had already paid the rent for March 2020. I told Atria on either the 7 or 8th of March that John would not be returning. There was a 30 day notice clause to cancel the lease. These people are the worst!! Looking for payment of the few extra days on a 30 day lease. They couldn’t be bothered to send someone upstairs to his apartment to check on him when he didn’t show up for breakfast but can certainly spend time hunting down $3500. Who knows how long my uncle had been lying there, I really thought we were paying for a service that would prevent something like this from happening to him. Would give no stars if that...
Read moreI recently had the misfortune of having to place a loved one in this assisted living facility and I have to say, it was a nightmare. The place is poorly run and the executive director is completely incompetent. They do not care about the well-being of their residents and seem more concerned with their online reviews than anything else.
The facility is understaffed and the employees are overworked and underpaid. My loved one often complained about neglect and lack of care from staff members. It was clear that the employees were not properly trained and did not have the necessary resources to provide adequate care.
What is most disturbing about this place is that they encourage all of their employees to write good reviews to boost their ratings online. This is a complete disservice to the public and completely UNETHICAL--employees should reserve these rating for job sites like Glassdoor. It is clear that the executive director, Sheridan Daniel, cares more about their reputation than the actual care of their residents.
I would not recommend this particular facility to anyone looking for a caring and compassionate environment for their loved one. It is clear that the management here has their priorities all wrong and the residents suffer as a result. Steer clear...
Read moreMy time spent at Atria on 86th was simply amazing. I had a kidney transplant operation days before arriving here and I could not have been in better hands. The staff here is full of wonderful, caring, patient, kind people. I’m going to name names at the risk of leaving someone out: Pamela, Claudette, Devin, Jessica, Melinda, Stephanie, Cynthia, Daisyem, Francy, Lisa, Erion, Fanny, Giselle, Winsome, Eduardo, Peter, Harry, Mitchell, Tracey, Claudia, Carmen and so many others that made my stay enjoyable (forgive me I’m sure I left somebody off the list). A special shout out to Rickwan - he took it upon himself to call me every afternoon to take down my dinner order and then deliver it to my room. That type of kindness is hard to find in this crazy, callous world. I was at the Atria West 86th for a little over a month. The food was as wonderful as the people at the two restaurants and the cafe. I was not able to take advantage of the daily programming due to l my recovery (compromised immune system) but it was tempting (movies, lectures, yoga, artists, gaming, karaoke, field trips, happy hour - you get the picture)!!! I would unequivocally recommend The Atria West 86th. I could not have healed in a better place!! Signed: an extremely appreciative Ted...
