Brooklyn General Store — Local services in New York

I am a sewer, not a knitter so can't speak to the yarn selection (which looked extensive), but I was very impressed by the small yet very well curated supply of fabrics. Prices are high (more per yard for identical items than sources online or elsewhere) but everything was good quality and there nothing like being able to touch and see in person. A really nice if limited selection of many of my favorites like Nani Iro , Liberty, Ruby Star, Merchant and Mills etc. I ended up buying three lengths of fabric. Unfortunately I agree with others about the vibe there. It wasn't terribly busy but all the employees there could not have been more indifferent. Any questions or requests for assistance were met with a 'why are you bothering me' attitude once you could actually get someones attention. Really a shame because it's a great space with good products.... Would be more worth the extra $ for the personal experience if the staff were more engaging...

It’s a dime in a dozen to find a unique shop like this in New York. It truly is wonderful that there are beautiful shops like this one dedicated to crafts like knitting and sewing. I was in complete awe when I entered this shop. Everything was so beautiful! I loved all the rainbow of colors of the fabrics and yarn. I loved there was wall to wall of yarn in so many vibrant colors. I spent a lot of time looking at the fabrics and their beautiful colors and patterns. I was imagining all the projects I can for my home using all those fabrics. I loved that the shop had cute items for home decor. The shop even had all the tools needed for sewing and knitting. From scissors to thread to measuring tape. I also spent a lot of time looking at the sewing books and project books the shop carries. The shop offers all kinds of sewing and knitting classes. I purchase a lot of fabric, primarily wholesale. So, calling a fabric company and asking about the prices they have on their website shouldn't be such an issue. Based on other reviews, the people who work at Brooklyn General Store are rude. Well, I just had the rudest phone call in my life. I called to ask about a specific fabric and color. I told her that the price on the website was $2.50, but she said it was $3.50 and that I must not be looking at THEIR website. I asked her multiple times about their URL since she told me I must not be looking at THEIR website, as in I was somehow on a fake website with their name and information on it. Ultimately, she told me if I purchased the fabric, I would not receive it because it was not in stock. If you can't keep up your stock and prices on your website, don't offer online shopping, and don't tell potential clients they must be on some...
