This place has DELICIOUS food. Tonight I went in to buy some prepared food because I had a busy day and no time to cook before picking up my daughter from pre-k. I was planning to place an order for my Thanksgiving turkey, too, but the guy who was at the prepared food counter rubbed me the wrong way and I just wanted to get out of there after dealing with him.

I asked for 4 chicken cutlets and a large container of Greek salad. He said something about how it was going to cost more this way and did I want the family meal- I said “okay but is the family meal the same 4 pieces of chicken and Greek salad?” And he said, no, it was two pieces of chicken and the other two would be charged separately. He said he could charge them all separately but it would cost more. So did I want to pay more or less? I said “I really don’t understand, why don’t you just charge me whatever it costs” and he repeated that charging for them all separately would cost more and when I still didn’t understand why he didn’t just ring it up for whatever the best deal was and was insisting that I understand that he could charge me more for the same food (??), he said that I must be tired. Um what? Would someone ask to pay more for the same meal? I still have no idea what he was talking about. Just ring up my food! He seemed weirdly insistent that I acknowledge that I wanted the “family meal” even though it made absolutely no difference but...

The Quintessential New York Butcher Experience

Dellapietras has become more than just a butcher shop for us; it's a testament to the quality and passion that epitomizes the best of New York. It's our exclusive go-to for meats, and every visit reinforces why.

The staff at Dellapietras are a unique blend of New York charm. They're down-to-earth, incredibly knowledgeable, and their friendly banter, both among themselves and with customers, adds to the authentic experience. It's a place where you're not just a customer but part of a community. They know their craft inside out, and their confidence shows in every recommendation and cut they offer.

Our Christmas dinner was taken to new heights with a leg of lamb from Dellapietras. It was, in a word, divine. The quality of the meat was outstanding, highlighting their commitment to offering only the best. Cooking with such high-quality meat was a joy and the resulting meal was a highlight of our holiday celebrations.

What I appreciate most is the assurance that I'm sourcing my meat from artisans who are not just skilled but are masters of their trade. In a city teeming with options, Dellapietras stands out as the best of the best. It's not just about buying meat; it's about experiencing the expertise and tradition of a true New York butcher. I can't recommend them...

A coworker and I just stopped in to satisfy our curiosity. I immediately see a manned station with sausage and brisket and see a sign board which lists the ten or so different sandwiches available at that station. I ask the gentleman which sandwich is the most popular and he point at the BBQ brisket and the sloppy joe. I asked which one he'd pick out of the two and he said the brisket, so that's what I went with. I noticed that the prices weren't posted (which usually isn't a good sign), but he said that most of the sandwiches were ten dollars.

The brisket was marinating in a sauce/gravy. After putting a huge helping of meat onto the bread, he dipped the top portion into the sauce and allowed it to absorb a nice amount of it. Next, he applied the slaw (optional) before assembling the sandwich.

The meat was tender and juicy. Not overly flavorful, but tasty. The slaw provided a nice balance to the salty meat.

We also picked up a loaf of lard bread. The name doesn't do the loaf justice. Baked inside of the bread various types of meat (prosciutto was one of them) and provolone cheese. Delicious.

I noticed that they also sell desserts, chicken wings, olive oils, and other tasty things. I'd pay them...

One of the Best dry aged steaks in NYC, period! I went to Dellapietras after a colleague recommended it. I walked 20 mins from my office in a cold and windy day and was warmly greeted by Jose at the counter. I told him that I wanted a dry aged, thick cut, bone in ribeye and he quickly offered me a 45 days dry aged piece of steak that weighed in at about 26 oz. He told me that it will be one of the best cut of steaks that I could get and he wasn’t wrong! In terms of preparation, I reversed seared the steak in a 220 oven until internal temp reached 110. I then seared the steak off in a super hot cast iron pan and finished by basting it with some butter, thyme and garlic, followed by 12 minutes of rest. The steak came out super tender as it was very well marbled and had amazing dry aged, umami flavor. I usually don’t write reviews, but this piece of steak blew my mind and my date was very impressed. I will definitely go to Dellapietras again and I highly recommend to others who are looking to purchase steaks.

I wish I could give Dellapietra’s six stars. It is that good. The employees are are extremely knowledgeable, and more importantly, genuinely excited to share that knowledge. The quality of the meats are out of this world. For a specific example of how great Dellapietra’s is, I walked in today with a rough idea of what I was looking for. After chatting with a butcher for a few minutes, I ended up with the best steaks I’ve ever had. And, to really put the cherry on top, I mentioned I was planning on cooking them sous vide so they vacuum sealed them for me right in the store! After the sous vide and a sear on the grill, they seriously were the best steaks I’ve ever had (dry aged ribeye and dry aged strip, if curious). My guests also couldn’t believe the quality of the beef. It was extraordinary.

Best butcher shoppe in New York City and it’s not even close. The quality of the beef, lamb, and poultry is exceptional. And Dellapietras’ vision for dry-aging a variety of different cuts is unmatched. They offer 20-30 day, 40-50 day, and 60-80 day dry-age. But my favorite thing about Dellapietras is the level of care I receive from the entirety of their staff. I am on a first-name basis with them and they always provide me excellent cuts aligned with my personal tastes. I spend hours a week in there just talking to the guys. I attached a photo of a 90-day dry-aged rib steak (which I cooked in my cast iron skillet). My best friend said it’s the best steak he ever had.
