Damascus Bread Shop is one of my absolute favorite places in Brooklyn. They have unbeatable prices for absolutely delicious things; it's one of the only places where you can get something substantial and delicious for $5 or under. My personal favorites are the baba ghanoush, super smoky and without mayo (as it should be), the Mujaddara, the various spinach pies, and the falafel sandwich. They also have an incredible assortment of Middle Eastern pastries and sweets and a pretty great pantry section in the back (huge bag of bulgur wheat also under $5). I have a completely positive experience every time I go, and love to see the friendly shop owner while I'm buying something unique and so tasty every time. Love you,...
Read moreI went to this place in 2019 for baklava and it tasted bad. Unfortunately a friend also went here in 2020 and got baklava again and it was also really bad. No comment about other types of food here. Absolutely do not buy baklava here. I have no idea what people wrote about the best baklava but they are idiots who have never had authentic baklava from Turkey or Greece. It tastes stale, and was soggy, and had no crunch or crisp. The nuts were brown (even though they were supposed to be pistachios), and there is syrup made from sugar water, not honey. The pastry is undercooked and a pale white color, with little butter and layering. If you want to eat bad baklava, go ahead and shop here! Many people like...
Read moreis there anything less than one star? Because this place should get that. You won't see any Syrians or Lebanese here. This is the worse of the worse. Let me tell you, I am lebanese. I KNOW what good Lebanese and Syrian food and pastry should taste like. This owner should hang his head down in shame. After not being in Brooklyn for many years, After not going to Atlantic Ave for many years we stopped here to buy some things to take to a party. We spent about $100 and boght several differnt things. We all took a bite and I actually put it all in the garbage. People! Good Lebanese pastry is so much...
