Marshalls — Local services in New York

Ever since they closed the TJ Maxx in downtown Brooklyn I've been trying to find an equivalent and I think I found it. There are actually two Marshalls located on Atlantic Avenue. This particular location is near Court Street not too far from the Trader Joes. Between the two I prefer this location because 1. it's quiet 2. next to other stores like TJ and FiveBelow 3. inventory. It's off the beaten path and not in an obvious place it can be easily overlooked. They have a better selection of items compared the other Marshalls located in Atlantic Mall near the LIRR. I found some great items here including a LED Mask by Mario Badescu, Laura Mercier face powders, and Sand + Fog frangrances. Went against my better judgement and bought shoes from here for my 6 year old (from the brand Bear Paw; tan boots with fur lining), and she wore them once for approximately 6 hours and somehow they scraped and peeled in the front. I took it back for an exchange/return the following week, and the Manager proceeds to tell me that they can’t take it back bc it had scraping and peeling; “I can’t put it on the shelf.” I responded well why would you put it back on the shelf; the material is defective clearly. Her response remained the same. Anyhow, there are “rules” and then there is context of a situation as it pertains to customer service. I shop here often and will no longer be spending any money here. I told them to take the cheap boot off the shelf so people aren’t duped...

I love this location for the variety of well priced items but the major con is the line. I have waited a minimum of 30 minutes waiting to check out every time I have come here. Currently I’ve waited 30 minutes and I’m still about another 30 away from reaching the check out. It’s not that there are not enough employees in the store, I’ve seen at least 5 on the floor, but there are only two cashiers. It’s frustrating watching employees converse while the line is 40 people long. Whoever manages this location is not allocating employees correctly. Again the items can be worth it but the management of this store is consistently disappointing.
